How does gliding and wallrunning work?

Just curious about how both of these glitches work. Unfortunately, I'm not a very knowledgeable person about the Doom source code, hell, even just code or math in general, so perhaps the answers might have to be dumbed down a little. Sorry :(

EDIT: The way wallrunnning works is very funny, they tried to fix some possible issues with Doom movement using a few safeguards but instead they made it even more wacky.
