I personally go for 100% Secrets & Monsters & Items, personally because of that satisfaction of having 100% 100% 100% on the intermission screen.

I go by the "official" definition, that is, 100% kills and secrets but items being optional. Main reason why I consider items optional is that if there's a lot of health/armor bonuses in a map, picking all of them up can become quite tedious (see Doom 2 MAP18 with that one room full of health bonuses).

100% and Max are not the same thing. I don't know why you have to confuse them together.

 

Also, Max is not defined by me. It's defined by a group of people, so if you don't like the definition of Max, then don't use the word Max.

 

And also, does what you meant imply that getting more than 100% kill bugs you?

items are silly, a lot of mappers put items on places for just decoration.

picking them all up just makes things boring and slow imo.

besides, avoiding certain items in a speedrun setting adds a lil strategy. do i waste time gettin this mega or risk doing this fight without picking it up?

I don't know, your wording seems you're only satisfied by 100%/100%/100%, not 101%/100%/100%.

I guess so. Some nasty archvile would just resurrect one monster and put a dent in the satisfaction.

However, There's a feature in DSDA/FDWL that subtracts from the monster count instead of adding onto it when an archvile resurrects one thing, so I forgive the angry martians.

If only the Icon of Sin didn't ruin my killcount...

Surprised almost 30% of respondents got the wrong answer.  Anyway I love killing all the monsters and finding all the secrets like the doom gods intended.

Is it important to know what portion of "all" items you have picked up at the end? IMO, items percentage is added mainly because the intermission screen would be not filled enough.

if you aren't doing all of this you aren't a True Maxer

Exiting the map with all weapons, full ammo, 200/200 health/armor, 100% kills, 100% secrets.

Items, optional. GZDoom doesn't default to listing them in the automap.

100% items tends to be less likely to be possible than 100% kills in Doom maps.

 

If you're playing Nightmare difficulty, 100% kills doesn't really mean as much as it does in other difficulties, because enemies respawn after death.

I go for 100% whatever i feel about it. Doom in the first place is about FUN and enjoyment. So if i want 59% of kills, then thats a 100% for me if i enjoyed it immensely. If going to an actual 100% makes the experience less, then its not 100% for me.

 

Then again i don't define 100% as if it were an absolute statement, which is what this thread seems to suggest.

Right now I am on a long streak of going for all kills and secrets - so that was my contribution to the poll.

 

More generally, I consider my definition of 100%ing a map to be me doing it the way I feel like when I am playing it. The fun way for me does not have a fixed definition and it may finish different to how it started.

I only leave the level once I have found every item, killed every secret, and grabbed every monster.

That explains the queue of traumatised demons I saw outside the therapy office in hell the other day.

 

As for the original question, could not care less. I play maps. If I find/kill everything, great. If not, meh.

Strictly 100% kills and secrets minus the monsters that were too annoying to kill and the secrets I was too lazy to look for.

Seriously, getting 100% kills is the only one I "kind of" care about when playing a map! Secrets are always fun to find, but I'm much more likely to go out of my way to find missed monsters than secrets.

Back in the day was stick to find 100% secrets, kill all the monsters, find all secret levels. Nowadays can tell that rather prefer to be sure to find all secret levels and don't care about the rest in case, well, it has less significant matter to me now, while secret levels might be interesting / fun in one way or another.

 

There two part of this, I suppose. One - might take too long / might be extra boring, second - take for compare something like Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold to Doom. Once I've, sort of, managed to get 100% there mostly. In this game you may literally need to check every second wall to probe for secrets. Those. to some extent, you can say that I had had enough of such research, having found enough secrets in the original wads.
