Dialogue text boxes with images (no option selections, and do not halt gameplay?) GZDoom

Fraston

Question

In case that massive title is a bit confusing, a crappy visual mock-up I made should be a demonstration of what I’m going for:

Dialogue is on rails so no selections/doesn’t pause play like strife.

I know nearly nothing about ACS and absolutely everything (ZERO EXCEPTIONS) I’ve tried to make with it has failed. ACS Execute on linedef refuses to work for me. I’ve copy and pasted code that everybody says works, and the game doesn’t recognize the script as valid. Yes, including acs common with the # before it. I have done everything to avoid it, with stupid DECORATE code and voodoo dolls, but afaik this is impossible to do in a friendly way with either. How would I go about making this? Maybe along the way I can shake my dogmatic bias against this kind of scripting.

In G/ZDoom you could use Hudmessage in an ACS script.

I read the article and from what I’ve seen it does not support images. Would you happen to know a function that supports images?

I have figured out how to get things working as intended and shook my hatred of ACS.

Thanks for all your help!

Now I ask: Is there a function that works better (or at least more intuitively) than this as a way to display effects like a vignette or a fullscreen flash?
