Now that I've got your attention, this is a "blather" thread; feel free to join in with talking about runs you thought were cool recently. I will have more later, when I watch more demos. 

 

 

Zero's Sunder maxes have been a treat, blending some of the glides and rocket jumps more commonly associated with speed categories into long slaughter maxes, and featuring a lot of out-of-the-box thinking. UV-Maxers, unlike the more pacifist among us, intuitively gain an intuition that "shooting things = good," and every runner, save those who sometimes like to blend categories in a more improvised fashion, intuitively gains an intuition that "moving around = good," so when su11-3122 showcased a route improvement where the player stands around stock still, in imitation of someone AFK, in a room with no line of sight of monsters -- not for a moment, but for two whole minutes -- I was really surprised. But it makes perfect sense: the back half of Sunder Map11 involves constant, outpouring teleporting into the giant vine-laden arena, and if you stick around and fight, monsters camp on the spawns a ton. So the preparation involves retreating to the previous arena and luring all the monsters away from the spawns so they can teleport in fluidly, which ends up saving more time than the inactivity "loses." 

 

I've also been appreciating Henning Skogstø's methodical campaign through the Sunlust maxes, replacing the blazing speed of the previous runners with lots of fine-tuned attention to detail in routing. sl10-451 is one of the rare times post-d1m8 you'll get to see two barons infighting as a deliberate part of the strategy.

@aconfusedhuman's e1m1 sweep over several categories in a short period of time just shows that he's a movement beast. But that wasn't enough, and the madman had to do doom2's MAP01 in 4 seconds, sadly one tic too short of that sweet record index :^)
