SNES Doom Custom Level: Huge Bite-Sized Lunchbox

Recommended Posts

Expected a Delta update? Well, not without SIGIL 2 that's not happening. Spectrum 2? PFFFFT. So right now I am developing an episode replacement for Doom 1, Doomguy's Demonic BBQ, where Doomguy miniaturizes himself to go inside his possessed BBQ to save the BBQ evening he has later with his marine buddies (The guys from coop/deathmatch? Those guys yeah.) Anyway, I got the idea of making a level where you're in a giant lunchbox. It wouldn't really work with that project, so here, have the SNES Doom standalone version. Very short map, a bit challenging.

Also yeah I know, I keep making SNES Doom maps, I know, I want to go back to the 32x eventually though so don't worry about it.

Oh by the way before I forget, I am planning on releasing all my SNES Doom levels (Originals or ports) as a big, family-sized package of fun to RHDN. (ROMhacking.net)

So yeah, you can look forward to that I suppose.

Necrobump, but I needed to address the question.

@Walter confetti The mapping tool was initially made by a Russian programmer from mid-late 2010's (before Randy Linden released the SNES DOOM source code in phases, which, to this day, has yet to reach Phase 4), who reverse engineered the ROM, tailored Doom Builder for it, and initially only gave the tool to @CacodemonTube. For whatever reason, it never went past closed-beta (the creator itself also seems rather reclusive when it comes to other internet activity), as described by CacodemonTube about how he made his custom SNES DOOM maps. He would later tell that whoever wanted to use it would be given the tool as well, but as far as I'm aware of, only Roebloz is the another one who uses this tool to a further extent.

Technical-wise, it only allows a single custom map inside the ROM, at the E1M1 slot. (Welp, according to the Doom Wiki, "internally the Reality Engine does not address levels in an "ExMy" fashion but simply has a series of lookup tables which point to the levels' various portions of data".)
