Master Levels - play order?

I finally got around to getting the Master Levels from Steam, and I'd like to make them into a megawad.

 

What is a recommended play order?

This is based on the PSN Release:

Level 1: Attack

Level 2: Canyon

Level 3: The Catwalk

Level 4: The Combine

Level 5: The Fistula

Level 6: The Garrison

Level 7: Titan Manor

Level 8: Paradox

Level 9: Subspace

Level 10: Subterra

Level 11: Trapped on Titan

Level 12: Virgil's Lead: 3rd Canto of Inferno

Level 13: Minos' Judgment: 4th Canto of Inferno

Level 14: Bloodsea Keep

Level 15: Mephisto's Maosoleum

Level 16: Nessus: 5th Canto of Inferno

Level 17: Geryon: 6th Canto of Inferno

Level 18: Vesperas: 7th Canto of Inferno

Level 19: Black Tower

Level 20: The Express Elevator to Hell

Level 21 (secret level): Bad Dream

I recommend trying The Works of the Masters, just won't work outside GZDoom.

 

This turns the Master Levels into 5 episodes that are at least a little more enjoyable. The traditional "orders" often don't work all that well because these are various unrelated levels bundled together arbitrarily, when most of them were part of series of some kind, those being Cantos of Inferno, Titan and Cabal. As they are, the master levels are mostly just frustrating, but with this utility they do become more tolerable. Especially Inferno, which is really the best one out of the bunch, and in this package, in it's complete form.

Interesting! - there are only 20 map files - is the secret combined with one of the maps?

there's also a patcher to compile all single wads into one with the PSN release order

Teeth.wad has 2 maps, the 2nd is accessible from a secret exit in the first. A pretty devious one too!

 

I second going for the Deluxe edition (Works of the Masters) as the best way to play these. I'm personally a fan of some of the maps that were rejected, but also playing Inferno and Cabal as full episodes is much more rewarding than going through only the pieces that made it. I personally disagree with JP LeBreton's ordering for some of the episodes, Cabal in particular contradicts Cranium's own stated ordering from back then (though this may be a case of Cranium having changed his mind over the years), but it's also very easy to rearrange the order to something you're more satisfied with, and the package itself is a stellar piece of work and IMO a great service to the Master mappers and to us players (thank you JP!).

Yes sir! But it looks like I'm not the only one feeling the heat. Is 31 usual for London? Or have you had hotter?

It can get that high sometimes but it is unusual. UK summers usually mid to high 20s. May get like 1 maybe 2 days that hot. Dunno whether it's actually more often but feels like it is more often compared with when I was small.
