LouigiVerona Posted June 22, 2022 Super Mario Bros. 3 Castlevania III Code Name: Viper Doom Starcraft Chasm: The Rift Pokemon Gold (second generation) Team Fortress 2 But actually the question caught me off guard. I realized that I don't think about games this way. There are games that I come back to, but these are also games that are easier to come back to, for technical reasons. I also realize that older games have nostalgic value, but aren't necessarily standing up to time. For instance Super Mario Bros. 3 was one of the best NES titles, for sure, but I think that Super Mario World could actually be a better game. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Esperpento Posted June 22, 2022 These are the ones I can think from the top of my head, in no particular order: Doom II Half Life Road Rash 3 Killing Floor Blood Ion Fury Project Warlock Counter Strike 1.6 GTA San Andreas Need For Speed Underground 2 I'm probably forgetting something... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

SilentD00mer Posted June 23, 2022 The list is not in order of preference: Doom Heretic Super Metroid Sonic 2 Castle of Illusion (Master System. Not everyone remembers this one... but this is a personal list, right :P ) Castlevania Symphony of the Night Castlevania Curse of Darkness Counter Strike 1.6 Shadow of the Colossus Super Mario Bros. 3 So many games I left out of this list, but it's really hard to choose only 10 :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

ZeMystic Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) I made a list like this for a similar thread a while back, but I forgot what I put so here's a few in no particular order. Halo - I grew up with these games, and they are a lot of fun. Titanfall 2 - Best single player campaign. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Fun game to get mad at. Elden Ring - Probably the best soulsborne game to date. Haven't touched bloodborne in awhile to test that theory. Lost In Vivo - Favorite horror game of all time. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - My favorite RPG title, and also the best of the Elder Scrolls series. Kameo: Elements of Power - I also grew up with this game. One of the only Rare titles that I seriously got into. The Original Doom Trilogy (Ultimate, 2, and Final Doom) - I doubt these would be on the list if it weren't for the modding scene, but it counts so it's in my top 10. Warframe - Don't know if this is still on the list anymore but I put like a bajillion (1082.7) hours into it and I met a few friends on it. The soundtrack is also a banger. The Half-Life Series - I really love the lore. The shooting mechanics is lackluster but the story-telling more than makes up for it. LadyMistDragon Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) Unlike some people, you probably shouldn't assume my age from the below list (at least entirely), but anyway 1. Doom 2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty 3. Final Fantasy VI 4. Super Metroid 5. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap 6. Final Fantasy V (the narrative is horrible but flows nicely) 7. Deus Ex 8. antares031 Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) To give more variaties, I excluded every Doom-related games, because they're everywhere on the Top 10 list. * NavyFIELD: Great classic naval MMOTSG with one of the most unique controls in any video games, despite of its notorioulsy giant paywall. * Team Fortress 2: This game was super fun to play during the early 2010s, before the trading update. * Age of Empires 2: This game still gets major updates, including remastered version and its DLCs, even after more than 20 years. * Wolfenstein - The New Order: One of the best combinations of classic & modern first person shooter. The best game in the Wolfenstein franchise. * Hollow Knight: The #1 best indie game I've ever played. It's also happy to hear that its sequel is finally coming pretty soon. * Starcraft - Brood War: I still think that AoE2 is better, but this is still one of the best games of its kinds. * FTL - Faster Than Light: Always remember, giant alien spiders are no joke. * Kerbal Space Program: Not just spaceships, you can make pretty much anything with this, including cars, tanks, and even battlecruisers. * Bioshock Infinite: This game could've been better, if I can carry more than 2 weapons. Still, it has great art-style and storyline. * The Talos Principle: Highly underrated first person puzzle game, even better than Portal series. Codename_Delta Posted June 23, 2022 Ok here we go! Doom 64 - Great atmosphere, decent gameplay, good and punchy guns, good visuals. Just the best classic doom game imo. Half-Life - Pretty good story, good gameplay, the best form of low-poly models imo, just the goldsource jank kinda brings this one down a bit. Serious Sam: TFE and TSE - Both basically the same game so I lumped them together, very punchy and powerful guns, varied enemies, a bit bs at times (and a bit broken at times, broken kill counts, broken secrets, atrocious bounce pads etc. )metropolis' kleer corridor of death is the most bs part of tfe so far, tse is better in terms of less bs, but isn't perfect. Do love these two though! Titanfall 2 - Amazing gunplay, amazing movement, just wish that the multiplayer wasn't dead, I guess harvester Defence or whatever it's called isn't dead. TF2 - Still hold this pretty high, very customisable, quite funny, just the bots and stuff like that ruin the game a bunch. Half-life 2 - Not as good as Half-life 1 IMO, better engine though. I'll update the list when I can think of anymore. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dexiaz Posted June 23, 2022 You know, I've played a lot of games in my life...and I've never played some cool games (they are mostly 20-years old, but still). It's obvious, that our top lists are subjective, but I want to add that my list is not "solid" and might change in future easily. Resident Evil 4 (original) Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines Titanfall 2 Silent Hill 2 Max Payne 1 Postal 2 VA-11 Hall-A Fallout: New Vegas Road Rash: Jailbreak Return to Castle Wolfenstein 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
QuaketallicA Posted June 23, 2022 Not humanly possible. I mean, the entire Doom series would pretty much take up half the list right there. So let's go with top 10 series/franchises. Doom (obviously) Mortal Kombat Quake Star Wars Battlefront (the originals by Pandemic from '04-'05) Battlefield Call of Duty (the XB360 era ones) Half-Life Duke Nukem Wolfenstein Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Far Cry & Crysis (I know they're different but FC1 and Crysis are very similar, both by Crytek, so I'm lumping them together) Medal of Honor Yeah I went over 10, sue me. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Halo: Combat Evolved No, but I'll assume from telling me not to assume your age that you're a young guy or gal who likes 90s stuff. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted June 23, 2022 My top 10 (not entirely in order) games/game series would be: Classic Doom (Doom II, UDoom, Final Doom. Simply due to limitless content) Command & Conquer series (mainly Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun. But other C&C games are also good) Unreal Tournament series (I like all of the UT games, but UT99 is at the top) Mass Effect (first 3 games) Duke Nukem 3D Quake series (mainly Quake 1 and 2. Especially Q1 due to the user content) Descent (first 2 games of the 6DOF series) Red Faction 1 Half Life 1 and its expansions Starcraft 2 (yeah I vastly prefer SC2 over Broodwars, don't care if you think I am weird) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Daytime Waitress Posted June 23, 2022 9 hours ago, enigma101 said: Ridge Racer Type 4 Only an honourable mention for me, but I really respect this choice. 'Member when it was released and everyone was all, "Yeah, it's adds the most depth and style to an already awesome series, but boy are we tired of arcade racers - I guess you can pick it up if you absolutely have to"? And then arcade racers just up and disappeared. Gorgeous soundtrack. 5 hours ago, LadyMistDragon said: 9. Secret of Mana Highest of high fives. In no particular order because that would be excruciating: Secret of Mana: single best combat interface and collision detection of any action-oriented JRPG. Everything Square ever did with the series afterwards just felt... off. Hands down my favourite gaming soundtrack of all time. Doom 1&2: utterly refuse to separate them. The first for its cohesion and being something I'll always enjoy exploring; the second for being the biggest toybox ever produced by humankind. Awful glad I came back to them years later after SNES Doom was a terrible introduction... Unreal Tournament '99: for me, this is what FPS's should feel like - a balanced arsenal and ridiculously fluid movement. DUSK: got me back into PC gaming after a lifetime away. The fluidity of UT99 in a brilliant single-player experience. Never has so much been done with so little. Minecraft: unlimited creative expression in a charming little digital lego universe. Kirby's Pinball Land: while I love that physics advancements now allow us to replicate real-life tables, this game did so much that could only be done with vidya gaem pinball and I will never tire of it. Baldur's Gate: probably the only title on this list that I wouldn't play in a heartbeat, because to begin is to sink twenty-plus hours in, and I've done that enough to last a lifetime. So many soundbytes, particularly dialogue, are simply burned into my synapses at this point. Breath of the Wild: no game has ever encouraged exploration like this did. I may not want to revisit it (for another few years, at least), but no other video game world has ever felt so alive for me. Assetto Corsa: a racing game with a volume of user-generated content comparable to Doom. Only knock against it is that there is no soundtrack. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
