Intermission Map - Sigil (COMPLETE, No HD yet) (GZDoom)

Thanks! Unfortunately I haven't done the other episodes, it's been suggested, but since they had maps already I've not thought about it much. I may do them at some point in the future though.

I may be going off tangent with this, but what if the marine could have a red patch on his shoulder plate, his pants torn and ammo belt across his back... ;)

 

Whatever the application of these from mod/addon standpoint I am enjoying just browsing through the images looking at them. Thanks a lot!

 

Also wondering if having the marine stand in front of the spaceport panorama from your Doom II map made any sense.

Ohhh you mean like his Doom 2 outfit? Well I was thinking this was just before he meets up with the resistance and gets his mission orders to infiltrate the spaceport, which is when they'd give him an overdue change of clothes. But...

 

You've made a good point. My intermission maps for Doom 2 currently have the green helmeted classic Doomguy, and they should by logic have the Doom 2 marine. This is very doable, but I'm torn as I love the classic green guy. Maybe I'll make it an option or something, but I do have a Doom 2 marine model I can use.

Just to let anyone following know, I've not stopped work, just a few things slowing me down. I have been working on the next one, and it is almost finished! Will report back in a couple days or so with luck.

Are you planning on going beyond Doom, as in doing something similar for either Heretic or Hexen? That'd be awesome, especially for Hexen. 😲

I'll be honest, it's unlikely as I know next to nothing about Hexen aside from that it's a fantasy game using the Doom engine? I love the setting and atmosphere of Doom, but beyond that I'm almost completely unfamiliar with Hexen, Heretic, all that stuff. I will look into it, just to see what I've been missing, but I don't have any immediate plans to do much in the way of maps for them. But never say never I guess!

Heretic is very close to the Doom formula and it's only the latter two episodes that are missing intermission maps.

 

Heretic's intermission maps are also done with early 3D renders so their look could be easier to imitate.

I second the suggestion for Heretic, it would only be 2 maps for E4 and E5 (and maybe a tiny one for E6's 3 maps?) so if you're looking for a small project that's not as intensive as the last that might be a good option. Hexen would be really cool but I don't think the way the game is structured really invites this, since there are no intermission screens and the back-and-forth within a hub raises questions about when the map should pop up. It also plays very differently from Doom. You may enjoy Heretic since its gameplay is much more similar.

 

As always though, I'm sure whatever you end up doing will be great and I will definitely be using it. The Eviternity screenshots look great and I can't wait to check out the wad when I get home tonight.

i know this is a late reply, but i think this is just gorgeous. definitely the most appealing of your intermission maps yet imo

Basically I wanted this to make Sigil sit neatly alongside the other episodes as a true official-feeling fifth episode. Just run my wad after Sigil, and everything should work okay.

 

If all this is just TOO DAMN MUCH messing around, I've included a version with just the map and everything else untouched. Have fun!
