Crispy Doom Fluidsynth question

Recommended Posts

OS: Windows 10

Source Port: Crispy Doom

Why does putting down music volume while using fluidsynth put down SFX volume? I tried using OPL and that fixed it but I am just asking why music volume = master volume

See this.

In short - Fluidsynth does not actually come with Chocolate/Crispy Doom, you need to provide it yourself. Since it's not present, SDL Mixer falls back to using native MIDI which has the aforementioned volume bug.

If you truly want to use Fluidsynth on Windows you need to build your own SDL Mixer with Fluidsynth support, and download the appropriate Fluidsynth binaries (i.e. DLLs) for your system. Frankly, on Windows you are probably better served by something like VirtualMIDISynth.

Hey, I think the problem is far more strange than that...

I vividly remember having the same issue in Crispy Doom or Chocolate Doom a year or so ago. I also remember that I somehow managed to fix that issue and I have recent-ish builds of Chocolate Doom 3.0.0 and Crispy Doom 5.11.1 lying around with working sfx and music volume sliders. Fluidsynth dll files are not there.

Right now I have built Sprinkled Doom, and straight away I have noticed bugged volume sliders there as well. So I've tried to copy paste all dll files from my Crispy Doom folder to Sprinkled Doom, and the issue is still there. I'll give it a try and rebuild SDL2 mixer with fluidsynth support and rebuild Sprinkled Doom as well, but honestly the issue seems to be really random at this point.
