Deadline Announced! [Community Project] Pandora (Shovelware MegaWad) [Split]

Gibbon got on the nerves of one of the mods over a conversation about Doom 64. The mod locked all of Gib's threads. When he complained, he got a perma ban. Sucks but not much we can do about it.

If that's true, and there's nothing more to it than that, that's actually a pretty shitty reason to ban someone (unless it's a tempban, but so far it doesn't seem like it will be). Of course, it is their site, so they are certainly free to do such.

That said, I don't know the full story or who said what, so I fully admit that I am probably not able to view this as impartially as I'd like to, but I'm hoping that the bar for being banned is a bit more than "got on the mod's nerves," and I suspect that there is more to the story than that.

I don't feel like this is the sort of place that will punish or ban people just for some disagreements.

Why did Gibbon get banned?

This is incorrect. He angrily requested thread locking in response to an Everything Else warning. (I didn't issue that warning. I barely even read Everything Else.)

He has apparently been peddling the claim that his threads were locked as a punishment, but that's untrue. Here's the post report he sent in, self-reporting a thread of his:

There was probably miscommunication on his part in the report -- maybe the "expect more closures" was just a bluff. But expecting to have staff sit around and lock individual threads at his beck and call, one tantrum apiece, as new reports came in, is obviously unreasonable, so I'm not sure what he was hoping for there? We decided to go with "Okay, lock his port threads since that's obviously what he's foreshadowing."

There were options he had if he had second thoughts and wanted to rectify this, like cooling down and DMing someone on staff the next day.

But he chose to....lie about it?

Shit-stirring like that is a big part of why he was banned (which was unanimously assented to in the mod channels). More broadly there was a pattern of going bananas (heh) at mod comments or warnings, which is obviously a bad idea for longevity. I realize the narrative of having one person out for him feels good and all, but the more accurate picture is he had been irritating the entire active staff this past couple of months.

"Don't piss off staff and lie about it" is a good rule of thumb to avoid being banned.

Feel free to use the other thread to coordinate the project, but I don't really think this is debatable. :)

Because some mod closed the thread, I'd like to post this here so it isn't completely lost forever.

This is idManager!: the end-all beat-all frontend for idtech1 games.

Due to this being based on the original DeathManager! code which isn't open source due to Bethesda preventing Romero from releasing any more development content, we can't release the source code publicly. But if you have feedback on what could be improved (within reason of course), feel free to share!

I don't know specifically, but all I know is it's because of a certain someone named after the peninsula region of Mexico going on a power trip.

Seems like a reasonable reaction to what he was doing. Constantly pissing off moderators is really not wise.

I'd say its more of misinterpreting words of intent and making action based on that.

To be blunt: With the way it is phrased, it isn't difficult to make that assumption. So to me this is more a tale of both sides meet their end.

Arguably that was not the intent but it sure could look that way.
