Doom 64 Reloaded for the Doom 64 Remaster (Steam, GOG, Epic Games, Bethesda.net, Game Pass)

Made a custom icon for the bat file.
So you can put a shortcut on your desktop and change it to this.
Will include it within the folder when I do a minor update.

Game has had some very small updates.
The desktop icon is now in the file. So if you want to put the Run.bat file on your desktop then there's now an icon you can use.
Texture for the Obelisk has been improved with an animated one with an eerie glow to it. 
A small amount of information is given in CRISIS about the mysterious 'Ferryman' character. 
There is actually a lot of my own 'head-lore' going about this character and what the actual story of Doom64 RR is.
I've also been so bold as to give the mysterious weapon in Doom64 an official name for RR.
It's name is a 'Scorn Reaper'
Now I know it has been so commonly referred to as the 'UnMaker' for so long that that name is the accepted name.
But in the original Doom64 is was never named as such. It was never referred to as anything. Other than 'What The F*** is this!?'
So I thought it fitting to give it a name... and not one borrowed from a different weapon. 
How did the UAC know it was named such? They translated the runes that are now carved into the alter of pain... from where they stole it.

My own head-lore... which is very basic at best coz I simply have not bothered to over think it....
Ferryman is lord of the Realm of Sorrows. It's his purpose to ensure balance between the other realms is kept.
Mother Demon sought to break this balance. And take absolute control of all realms... including the mortal realm.
This naturally made her an enemy of the Ferryman. So he constructed the 'Scorn Reaper' a weapon only he had the ability to create.
No demon nor mortal struck by this weapon could ever be resurrected.
And so the Mother Demon sent her hoards to the Realm of Sorrows. Legion after legion of hell-spawn fell to the power of the Ferryman's Scorn Reaper.
She was defeated.
And so proposed a peace treaty. So that balance would be restored. But this was a trick. And 'somehow' she managed to capture the Ferryman... using her powers to split his essence in three and encasing them into three artefacts he could never escape from. And in turn entombing those artefacts into Obelisks designed to draw upon his essence for her own purposes.


That's my very basic 'head-lore' which obviously needs some work.
These addition simply add some hints towards that lore.

There will be another update coz an annoying 'jumping sprite' was found in Crisis and that will never do.
So after moving that away from the door so it doesnt 'jump' Ive also added a few more things in.
Firstly both shotgun sprites have been enhanced.
I found the debate about weather the original Doom64 shotgun sprite depicted a 'Pump Action' or a 'Lever Action' to be pretty silly.
As in all honesty... the sprite depicts neither. 
So this new one depicts BOTH... plus 'Bolt Action' if you prefer. lol All tastes are now catered for... no debate needed.
The Super ShotGun has also been enhanced. Has a brass skull on the side and the grip is also capped with bronze. 
Added some trees to the out of bounds areas in most of the 'Night Realm' maps.
Plus 'The Marshes' has this rather nice 'Tree of Sorrows' added.

The Tree of Sorrows is fed by the regrets of those that pass over. 
All those that journey to the next life must stand before the Tree of Sorrows and be judged. 
All must taste of it's bitter Scorn Berries and receive their judgement. 
Those deemed to have lead a worthless life will be poisoned and their fallen corpse absorbed by its root. 
Only to then be fruited by the tree as a Lost Soul.

This is why Lost Souls are so vicious and relentless in Doom 64. 
They are the embers of a life force condemned to termination. 
They believe 'with their greatly reduced cognitive abilities' that they can save themselves from that fate...even though it is already sealed. 
By attacking those that appose hell. 
Or... any demon that inadvertently attacks them 'coz they're stupid' 
It's like the ultimate lobotomy... they didn't just loose their mind... they lost their body... and any hopes of an afterlife.
There is nothing in the mind of a Lost Soul other than anger/frustration/regret/spitefulness.

I was thinking it might be fun if us Doom64 nerds got together and brainstormed some ideas for a Doom64RR PDF manual. 
Something that gives more in-depth info on story... monster etc. 
As the original is pretty basic and written in a time where 'Doom story' wasn't really taken that seriously. 

Maybe your misses would like to do some artwork for it?

Tree Of Sorrows spawns 8 Lost Souls when the yellow key is picked up. 
This placement for the final key is much better as it saves the player from having to go all the way back around to retrieve it. 
And something actually happens when it's picked up.

What I send people who tell me that modern GZ-Doom can do everything that clunky old Doom64 engine can do... but better lol

I've also added these funky looking floating icebergs to Into The Void as they add a bit more depth to the foggy void. 
Still checking and rechecking for any lighting/texture mistakes. Im sure I could go through the whole game five or six times and still miss something lol.
No gameplay bugs found so I'm in no rush to release this update as it's just aesthetics.

You can expect to see a few more such additions in the next update. 
As I waiting to see if any more bugs /exploits are found... but Im pretty sure by now thanx to the tireless efforts of those that have play tested this to death there are none. 
In the mean time I'm looking for texture and lighting mistakes. Of which I have corrected several already. 
And... adding in more fun details to make the game even more immersive.
Tree Of Sorrows is done.
Voidbergs done.
Now adding in a couple of funky looking sphinx like statues to Forbidden Deeper. 
So I'll most likely update it again with those very minor corrections and these new fun additions in the new couple of months.

Might well go back and rework these at some point.
These are two Sphinx shaped statues made of iron and oak like a Trojan Horse... with a Tiki Mask face. 
So just mashing together lots of history and culture to make something cool. 
As the original game had planned to add a lot of this sort of thing.
And whilst I will not be adding addition maps with such a theme 'you got 'The Catacombs' and that's all your getting' 

There's plenty of opportunities to add such things to other maps without 'retheming' them.

Well it will be a while till I update again, so if you think of any other 'ancient culture' type things you think would look cool in certain maps then let me know.
I'm always open to suggestions.

Managed to 'break' Forbidden Deeper by adding too much stuff... so sprites started to glitch out.
First time I've ever 'over done' a map and pushed the engine passed it's limitations. 
To be fair to this clunky old engine... it's more to do with this map being so open plan with a huge draw distance. 
As I've added plenty more stuff to more conventionally designed maps with no problems.

'The Scwiba' is a unique demon with reality bending powers. It was captured by the UAC using bags of potato chips as bait. This creature must be contained at all costs.

New shrine puzzle finished. Nothing too OTT... just a simple switch hunt. 
The shrine however is well worth the effort.
And the death trap within is pretty cool.
So something for puzzle hunters to enjoy in the next update.

JGS1989 has also earnt himself a RR super secret shrine.
For his tireless bug hunting efforts. Things missed by myself and everyone else. 
This one is a tricky one to discover. With a nasty surprise for those that enter.

Whenever there's another update... you will find there even more scientists in Scwiba's secret shrine.
This character is from Rampage World Tour... which was on the N64 so quite fitting.
Dr Elizabeth Veronica.
I wont be updating any time soon unless some bugs are found
