All of us are familiar with the worst nightmare a Doom speedrunner has to deal with: the dreaded moment when you are grinding for the next second and see .00 on the intermission screen. Especially infuriating if you just happened to get the most insane RNG/execution possible and/or screwed up the very last exit switch press. Then you have to deal with the fun choice between grinding another million hours for next second, sucking it up by just posting the run, or hoarding and never playing the map (or Doom itself) ever again. :^)

 

Well, this month is an opportunity for everyone to collectively "fix" each other's and our own time-based imperfections. The premise is simple; points are awarded to anyone who beats any records that end in either .00 or :00. A spreadsheet has been generated listing existing runs for convenient searching of such runs (courtesy of ZM): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HSXZYjYNwfugVR2RZB3YmVLCtQ_PIzSIsUCV4XqPC0Y/edit?usp=sharing. Note, this was generated from demos up to June 13th of this year, so it may be missing some runs, but they are still eligible for this month (as are any runs posted during the month). Point standings will be placed into the spreadsheet as well (whenever I update it to add that, which may be later during the weekend).

 

Rules:

  • 1 point for being the first to beat any of the demos on the list
    • For the :00 demos, you must take them down to at least the next second to qualify for points.

  • If there is a demo in the spreadsheet that is NOT a record, beating it will not qualify, so please check just to be safe (e.g., if there's faster NM100 runs than NM-Speed, faster Nomo100 than nomo, etc.).

  • Please also double check that the previous demo is in fact a valid record (e.g., doesn't miss secrets, monsters). Also, please ensure the category and other relevant information on it are listed correctly.

  • If the previous demo is not recorded in the correct source port/compatibility for the map, you are nevertheless expected to use the correct ones. If this makes the run impossible or substantially harder to beat, please let me know.

  • It is allowed to post another .00/:00 demo if you beat one of the ones on the list. You'll still receive a point, the only result is that it will end up being readded to the list (and you have to live with the fact that you're just leaving the job to someone else yet again :P).

 

Since I am uploading demos to DSDA, I will be updating the sheet whenever I upload demos to ensure all the demos are valid. Also, as this thread will end up used for a large number of WADs, please make sure to link the WAD on DSDA in your post whenever you post a new demo.

Another demo month wrapped up. :) Congrats to @Bdubzzz for top place, with no real competition :^) (2nd place: me, 3rd place: @kmc). Not quite as many demos as last month, but I guess some of the runs

@4shockblast 1so map10 uv-speed 9 secs was beaten by billa on june and now the record is 8.03

 

Dot map 22 uv speed record was beaten by KMC in 2019

DSDA crashed when I tried to exit the game after recording this, the demo plays back fine and the -analysis tool reads it correctly but sorry if there's an issue!
