What was your first console?

We got Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt with it, and it was absolutely amazing. Over the next couple of years we got Metroid, TMNT 2, Super Mario Brothers 3, Legend of Zelda, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure, but most of the games we played were rented. But it still seemed like we had quite a few games to play.

Now I look at my Steam list of almost 600 games and I have a hard time finding something to play.

An abundance of choice actually seems to do nothing but stifle my ability to choose.. I think they need to call this "Netflix syndrome" even though it applies just as well to YouTube, Steam, vanilla Doom wad packs, etc etc..

My favourite part of childhood was heading to the video rental place and trying something new each week. And not knowing what ennui was.

On Wii? Nah man most of my gaming rentals were definitely SNES/N64

The very first game system I had... can't fully remember what it is because it came and left so quickly, but I'd say it probably was a Texas Instruments TI-99? I barely played anything on this bugger at all and I couldn't even tell you what were the games I played on it. I was barely 3 years old when I touched this thing.

The one system which I fully remember for sure was the Commodore 64. We had it on the cheap since it was like 1986 and it came with a huge stack of pirated floppies which meant near infinite ways to waste my time. It also was unintentionally my gateway through the English language (and likely basic computer talk), where I learned what stuff like LOAD "*",8,1 - RUN - LIST - LOAD "$",8 would mean. I lamented later that the NES wouldn't work like this and instead we had to deal with this flashing red light that was so random. The Commodore would take forever to load, but at least we didn't have to fiddle with the floppies for no good reason to make them work!

Signing off before my words somehow cause me to further prematurely age.

First console I remember interacting with was the NES, though technically we had a ColecoVision around with Donkey Kong and Centipede.  I'd say it's a toss-up between the two.

One of the first consoles I ever owned was the Game Cube.

I remember trying to beat Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin. Man those games are brutal for a 6 year old... Luckily I saw my sister play Animal Crossing and eventually I got her copy. Best game cube game ever. :D

I rented Ghostbusters for NES. I loved the movie, it was the funniest movie that my young self knew. I also played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES. I know what ennui is.

Sega Master System II: The Revenge, which had Alex Kidd In Miracle World built in, and was awesome.  We had The Ninja, Ghostbusters, Sonic I, Arcade Smash Hits, Robocop Vs Terminator, Spellcaster, Wolfchild and Mortal Kombat (a real basic version of).

My first console was the NDS Lite, at 18 years old (never had a console as a kid). Sold it after getting the DSi XL and later sold that one as well, which I regret. Last year I got another DSi XL since it's the definitive way to play DS titles imo.

EDIT: If handhelds don't count then the PS2.

IIRC my first console must have been an old PS1 that belonged to my dad (mind you we're talking about 2004-2005, so the PS2 was out already), I have some vague memories of my mom playing Final Fantasy (or at least I think it was FF) some very abstract game which for all I know it could have been some sort of South Park game, though I cannot seem to find any results on a South Park "free roam" game on PS1 and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the turkey fps one, oh how could I forget getting scared shit-less when I would hear the mask pick up sound from Bandi Crash. As my actually "own" first console it was the PS2 that came with the Hobbit videogame, that must have been around 2008.

Also an absolute truckload of bootleg plug'n'play consoles...

Always astounded to see the amount of kids on this forum. For a messageboard about a 29 year old game, it kind of goes against what I would expect.

My first console was an Atari VCS/2600.
