If there is, I hope it's like the Quake 1 update, something to add a few minor touch-ups to make it more friendly to modern audiences (so hopefully online is more populated again). I hope though id doesn't start doing what Call of Duty does and re-release all their games once they're more than 5 years old. Ridiculous how many millions of times they will remake/remaster/reboot/sequelize the Modern Warfares.

Something like that would be nice. An option for adding sprite muzzleflashes would be extremely welcome if they actually go through with that.

Definitely, and I wouldn’t mind some tracers as well. I was really surprised to see Quake 2 RTX do notta in either regard.

It would be cool if we could get some new tracks as well. Jeremiah Sypult reportedly made several tracks for the game, but only one, "Climb", was used; a Remastered Edition would be a good opportunity to include them as well.

I loved Quake II; it was probably some of the most fun multiplayer in my life. There were mods like Gloom, Action Quake, Weapons Factory, and Cry Havoc that laid the groundwork for a lot of games and modes people take for granted now. That being said, I don't see myself being interested in purchasing a potential remaster. Without the deathmatch community and mods, you're left with an "ok" single player campaign.

Is the Quake II multiplayer still active and can it be played with a source port? Just asking as someone, who plays Quake since August 2021 and is interested how Q2's mp is.

I'm hoping its a remaster from the same team, with the same overall feel and quality. Quake 2 and both expansion packs out of the box, and an add-ons menu that has the N64 campaign or even the PS1 campaign as starting points.

Please please be a remaster. Quake II is a kickass game and IMO easily the best in the series.

Thank you, I will try it out. :) Nice to see, that there are players online. Had no clue if Q2 mp still lives.

As far as I remember, Quake II RTX had also multiplayer. But I guess it might be dead. I will anyway look into it and try if my GOG Quake II version works with the RTX remaster.

Yeah! Let's hope this hits with their MP too!!

And would be wonderful to they have they own campaign as it was on Quake Dimension of the Machine, maybe a retro ending with Q4 Marine (?)

I want a port of the N64 - complete with the Aubrey Hodges soundtrack - and PS1 levels.

Wasn't there a thing where the creator of a Quake soundtrack (I'm guessing 2) wanted to create a vinyl record for the ost? He had to give certain legal rights / ownership to Bethesda before it could happen but then they got quiet on him or something.

I recall reading it somewhere a little while ago.

A vinyl re-release of the complete Quake 2 soundtrack based off the original master recordings is in the works, yes. That much has been confirmed by Sonic Mayhem.

Though, I really hope we eventually see a RTCW remaster over just about anything else. If they added the console exclusive prelude mission set in the Afrika campaign, the Xbox (original) content (shotgun, new enemies) and mixed it with the PS2 version upgrade system, it would be like the ultimate version of RTCW.

YES
I really want to play this game with a full lobby!

Also I would kill for a quake 2 vinyl release.
I have the Quake 1 vinyl and I think it would look amazing on my shelf.
In fact I think I may need a new shelf.

I know about RTX Quake 2, but I just hope Quake 2 gets the treatment that Quake got last year.  Expansions, coop/mp browser and future level packs.

German steam users can access the addons now on steam for the very first time. On GOG the addons were accessible before.

For me the N64 and PS1 campaign would be enough. But yeah I did not yet play Quake 2 at all.

Those small addons for old games are neat, like No Rest for the Living or the two Quake 1 campaigns.

That's amazing! I was just thinking about playing it again not long ago - and now it seems I might postpone this idea until the Remaster release (or play original release anyway, and then compare the original and the remaster... I'll think about it).

As soon as there's gonna be co-op (and I'm sure there must be), I'm totally hyped about it.

My only concern here though is, are they going to completely pull out the original from Steam and other platforms and exchange it with the remastered version, or the original release is still gonna be accessible? I hope they keep the original version as well. You know, for historical purpose and for fixated people like myself, lol.

This is quite literally the one and only reason that I want this to be a thing.

PS1 version wouldn't hurt either, if only for the prospect of having mod-compatible versions of the Arachnid and Guardian enemies.

Find out on Thursday, I guess.

If they go the Quake Remaster way, it's mostly both on th same package.

There’s an unfinished mod called Mission 64 that did the first few levels. It also did a lot of gameplay changes and improvements as well. It was really fun for what they had made so far.

What’s weird is it doesn’t use the ‘Ken “Razor” Richmond’ tracks, it uses music that Sonic Mayhem produced for other games…and it actually suits the gameplay, oddly enough.

This inspired me to find out that the 64 ost exists on moddb. When I revisit Q2 I go back between it and the original tracks depending on my mood.

Yeah, I've played Mission64, it had a few too many alterations to enemy behaviour for my taste (Berserkers being twice as fast and having absolutely NO windup meaning they can just Tekken-juggle you in the low-G levels for example). I was fine with the increased enemy count, but all in all I would have preferred something a bit more faithful. Also I'm not fussed on KMQ2 as a port, I sort of find it a bit TOO flashy.

Yeah, it’s quite strange how much it added. While fun, the additions weren’t too appropriate for what could’ve been a more faithful adaptation of the 64 port.

That said, the enemy changes are the kind of stuff I’d like to see in a remaster’s ‘hard+’. This might be “too flashy” but I also really liked the enemy footstep sounds it added, most notably for the mentioned berserker.

I really really hope we do get a remaster. I don't understand the people saying it shouldnt get one, even if you don't like it, its still better than not having it. In fact I think Q2 needs it more than Q1 did, which has had a lot more love from the community in terms of source ports and qol improvements, content mods, etc. Q2 has just a handful of (in my opinion) lackluster source ports, and takes more figuring out to get running well with high resolutions and the like.

Of course, the other attraction is that there's a possibility they make a new expansion for the game like they did with Q1, which would be awesome. I kind of dont see that happening though, but if they gave us the N64 campaign that would sort of make up for it by being a "new" expansion for PC players (and probably most players in general). PS1 would be a plus too but I think thats really unlikely. PSX Q2 was an entirely different engine made by a company not around anymore. We didn't get saturn quake for probably the same reasons we wont get PS1 q2.

One thing I would also love to see that Q1 got in its remaster was out of the box bot support, they did a pretty good job with the ai behavior on that with Q1 and reminded me of Q3 bots a bit.

I think it would be really bizarre and stupid if they didn't make a Q2 remaster. Even if it doesnt get as much additions as Q1, Q2 still has a following and room for improvement. If nothing else it would be nice to have a q2 remaster just for consistency's sake lol

If there is a remaster coming out, it's probably by Nightdive, right? If it's going to run through their KEX engine, I wonder if they can fix the wobbly guns. It's just so bizarre to look at. No matter how much I played the game, I never got used to it.

Well there is Yamagi Q2 source port that is pretty good. But yeah that is pretty much it when it comes to good and up to date ports afaik.
