scalliano Posted August 18, 2022 Aaaaaaand... diddly-squat. A new mod and 3WCTF added to Q1 and that's yer lot. Not even a mention. I guess "Quakecon" is an artefact name at this point. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
vyruss Posted August 18, 2022 Bummer. But at least we get this garbo-looking "Redfall" game which is probably some attempt at trying to be Left4Dead but with vampires? Pass. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kinsie Posted August 18, 2022 So! Here's all the QuakeCon announcements from the Old Games Division summarised: The Doom and Doom 2's modern Unity port has a new community-made addon, Thomas van der Velden's Revolution! from 2001, with Jimmy's modern MIDI pack. The Quake remaster has a new community-made addon, 2011's Rubicon 2 by John Fitzgibbons and CZG. Also: The Quake remaster has been updated with Threewave CTF, reborn under the oversight of original creator Zoid with nine classic maps for cross-platform grapple-hooking! The old Doom Eternal "Slayer's Club" promotional site is expanding to non-Doom games. Which is nice. Quake 4, Wolf3D, RTCW, and Elder Scrolls Battlespire and Redguard are now on PC Game Pass, alone with a Quake Champions all-champs unlock for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Heretic and Hexen are now available on Windows Store, for some reason. Okay! Also: Elder Scrolls Arena and Daggerfall, which are as free as they are anywhere else. 4 minutes ago, scalliano said: Aaaaaaand... diddly-squat. A new mod and 3WCTF added to Q1 and that's yer lot. Rudolph Posted August 18, 2022 (edited) @vyruss Yeah, I have to agree there. As much as I love Left 4 Dead 2, I am annoyed that it spawned so many imitators. Sure, there is a huge gap to fill in the absence of a proper Left 4 Dead 3, but still, it ultimately shares the same problem as every multiplayer-only game out there, i.e. there is just so many players to play with and so much money that companies are willing to invest in keeping the servers running. As such, a lot of these games are bound to fail and become lost to time. Edited August 18, 2022 by Rudolph 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

That’s why I got real bored of Vermintide and Back 4 Blood. Not so much for Deep Rock Galactic, I’ve sunk a few hundred hours into that. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Speaking of this, what is the WAD file called? I know it has the number 14, but I'm not sure what the WAD name is. EDIT: Nvm, it's TVR.wad. If you use DoomLauncher, it'll recognize it as Revolution! with that WAD name. Edited August 18, 2022 by Eddie 2077 Added info 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted August 19, 2022 That bad, uh? :P I agree that the game just was not good, although I did like the Terror Twins and I can only hope that they are given better material in the future. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dasha W. Frost Posted August 19, 2022 Not to derail the topic significantly, but I heard familiar words, so thought I'd drop a line. On 8/18/2022 at 1:20 PM, Rudolph said: Even Wolfenstein: Youngblood? What's so bad about Wolfiestone: Youngblood?!.. I must admit, I had mixed feelings about it when it was only released. My husband and myself tried it with a Buddy Pass, didn't make it very far and dropped it. But we returned back to it much later, and maybe they fixed the game a bit, or maybe we were just in a better mood for it - but we had a blast! This is easily one of the funnest co-op games in the last few years. Looks nice, has funny characters in it, plays well... and most importantly - it's co-op. Co-op in modern games is almost a luxury -_- 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If it is done well and doesn't have stupid mechanics/story it might be one of the better games coming out in the next few years. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Murdoch Posted August 20, 2022 11 hours ago, Dasha W. Frost said: What's so bad about Wolfiestone: Youngblood?! I never played it but the trailers were so utterly awful i never wanted to. The daughters were so collosally unlikable they really overshadowed everything else. It was such a missed opportunity to create more nuanced and interesting characters and have them interact. Like i thought it would be more interesting to have one girl be more gung-ho but the other be a bit more sensitive and struggling to get used to the idea of killing. Instead they're just essentially almost frat boy douchebags. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Color me intrigued, curious, wary, excited - all at the same time. Seeing what they provide for the original campaigns could be nice, but my biggest hope is support towards a variety of custom maps and mods. This is easily the part of the post where I could be getting my hopes up, but I’d love to see something like Citadel become playable through a new port.
