Hitboi Posted July 3, 2022 (edited) Not really a sprite but it's the unused Doom texture on the right: It's not that creepy in my opinion, just strange and a little disgusting. Edited July 3, 2022 by Hitboi 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted July 3, 2022 One that was unused: In that huge sprite dump Romero posted, there was all sorts of bodies in a pile. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted July 3, 2022 Hanging victims are just creepy in general. Pity the id guys deleted/removed so many other sprites and textures from the early versions of Doom. Some of them are unnerving, like the pile of corpses. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
enigma101 Posted July 3, 2022 Either one of these. The first one is just a bit disgusting and the second is pretty eerie. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Unregistered User Posted July 3, 2022 Flat 14 is so blue it's sus. The UAC interior decorator was definitely partially responsible for the outbreak of hell. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
VoanHead Posted July 4, 2022 You should take a look at Doom 4 Vanilla's version of the wall of faces, OP. It's even spookier. Spoiler 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

gwain Posted July 4, 2022 I think the archvile's death is the most unsettling series of sprites maybe because its proportions look most human like it always striked me as wow you just killed a being 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thelokk Posted July 4, 2022 (edited) The floating eye is creepy as heck. Runner up is the N64 pain elemental. Edited July 4, 2022 by Thelokk 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dubbag Posted July 4, 2022 (edited) The Doom 64 Pinky. In my opinion it is the scariest thing I've ever imagined. Especially when it's running at you down a dark hallway. If Pennywise could take the form of my deepest fears this would be one of them. I've had multiple nightmares of this thing chasing me. It is so buried and ingrained in my subconscious it's ridiculous. When I think of the word "Demon" this is what I see. I hope to get it tattooed on me one day. Imagine being 7 years old when this game came out and you first played it, asking your father who is a stern catholic nut to rent this game and then seeing this...also this is your first time ever playing Doom and this is in Map 01. Captain Keen Posted July 4, 2022 I don't know about creepy, but the pink distorted faces textures (posted above by enigma101) is my favorite one from the original games. I got into The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery because the cover of that game reminded me of those Doom textures, too. (Great game btw, it's my favorite non-Lucasarts adventure game of the 90s.) That unused pile of bodies is pretty good, too. Feels very arcade-y, like something from Mortal Kombat. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Solmyr Posted July 4, 2022 The hanging, half eaten corpse decoration that has its brain exposed, bloodied face and mouth agape. The other "non-Gi-Joe" hanging bodies look like they went through a prolonged, excruciating agony before dying. On the other hand, this one looks like it went through much worse and then the demons toyed with the poor bastard remains until they got bored. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zulk RS Posted July 4, 2022 A weird choice but the Doom sprite that creeps me out the most (even after playing for so long) is Doomguy smiling at very low health. Something about that entire mouth full of blood gets me. It's also probably one of, if not the rarest, hud face. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It’s odd because I hadn’t ever considered that disturbing. The Ouchface, though, still unsettles me to this day - it’s a shock when it appears, because of its unpredictable nature in the games and my just having a reaction to shocked faces in general (I really didn’t like the same thing happening in other DOS games like Lands of Lore or The Legacy). 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
