It was created for the eight edition of the Pineapple Under the Sea Speedmapping series in April 2021. Some behind the scenes shenanigans (secret maps, coding ambitions, sunburns, etc.) caused this project to be backed into the corner of development hell. After finding the password to my google drive, the project is finally here. HUZZAH! Everything needed is here. I've tested each map personally and more than likely won't be accepting any more map updates lest there are some major issues with any of the included levels. Other than cleaning up the text file this release is practically final. sandwedge Posted July 13, 2022 Wow this looks cool! I've never actually played the adventures of square but this could be a nice way to check it out and see if I want to play all of the original. Wyrmwood Posted July 14, 2022 Never played Adventures of Square, but my kids loved it. Don't know if it was intended, but you allow parents to let their younger children play Doom totally guilt free. Their both actually good at Doom, show 0 fear and know it's only game but sometimes I watch them shooting the heart on a table or pressing a hanging corspe looking for secrets and feel a little bad. Thanks to great TC's like this, Hocus Doom and Golden Souls we have a great way to teach the next generation. BluePineapple72 Posted July 15, 2022 In addition to a few map updates, RC2 will compile the square-fulltex pack into the speedsquared pack for ease of launching. I've been told of some issues people have been having with launching the wad with 3 separate pk3s. Peccatum Mihzamiz Posted July 15, 2022 I just played through the first 11 maps. Great stuff folks! I played on medium difficulty and thought that one or two more maps could use some more balancing perhaps. I got stuck on @Scypek2's map, plus there's one missing texture there. Scypek2 Posted July 16, 2022 (edited) Wow, I knew about the missing texture, but the 3d platforms to the red key are completely invisible! I can see a limited palette in your video... were you playing in software renderer? It supports 3d floors, but not sloped 3d floors... Square is such a GZDoom-y game, playing it in software renderer didn't even cross my mind. Edit: the "clipping ladder" (I don't think it's possible at all in hardware renderer for stuff to be drawn under the floor like that) and the "misaligned texture" right after (I set the texture scale to -1 to flip it horizontally, I guess that may be inconsistent between software and hardware too?) seem to be the same issue. Peccatum Mihzamiz Posted July 16, 2022 @Scypek2 indeed apparently I was playing in software rendering mode. I noticed in map 11 when the sky broke and then switched to hardware rendering mode. I don't know why this happened. Maybe because I had to use the "map" command to start EVIIIA32 so it kinda messed up the map rotation? Idk, just guessing here. Muleke_Trairao Posted July 17, 2022 Found more issues: 1) On EVIIIA19, the first secret only gets registered if the player stands at this spot (where I'm aiming at). Spoiler 2) On EVIIIA20, you can actually jump over and inside one of the enemy closets and get stuck there. It's the one with the three laser robots that opens up after collecting one of the keys (circular key, I think). I had to noclip to get out of there. Spoiler 3) On EVIIIA21, this elevator doesn't work, so you can't return without noclipping. Spoiler 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
sandwedge Posted July 17, 2022 Never played adventures of square but this was a great way to get introduced to it. Of course all the assets from the game are cool, actually better than I thought once I see all the animation in motion. But the levels also looked great and had some fun use of vertical spaces with the jump button.
