EngineerKappa Posted November 3, 2022 I never realized how hard of a question this was. There are a lot of WADs like BTSX, Eviternity, No End in Sight, etc. that I can enjoy and recognize as being incredibly good or impressive, but they don't resonate with me enough to say they're my favorite. I think lately I go back to Rowdy Rudy II every now and then. Good mix of classic vanilla vibes while adding a lot of neat DeHackEd stuff. Golden Souls still makes me smile. Also SRB2, but that's cheating. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

129thVisplane Posted November 3, 2022 Struggle: Antaresian Legacy. Love everything about it really, especially the fast paced gameplay and the grand ornate maps, but especially the blue dimension episode. I am fond of a lot of other wads, I've got many great nostalgic memories of Invasion UAC/MarsWar/other stuff i played as a kid, I adore the visuals and soundtrack of the likes of BTSX/Ancient Aliens, but nothing really beats Struggle in terms of "heck yeah!!! i love every second of this!!!" value in my book. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomPlayer00 Posted November 3, 2022 Back to Saturn X Episode 1. I love techbase aesthetic and BTSXE1 perfected it in my opinion. Middle stages do suffer a bit from all looking the same but I don't mind that too much. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Captain Keen Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) Hmm that’s a tough one. Doom 1: No End in Sight (this year has also had some truly great UDoom wads) Doom 2: Maybe Valiant? Or Eviternity. For more vanilla stuff Jenesis, Akeldama and Alien Vendetta are all high up on the list. TNT: Definitely Revilution Plutonia: I actually don’t know for this one, I guess Plutonia 2? EDIT: Also, yes, Struggle: Antaresian Legacy is a lot of fun to play and I also recommend it! Edited November 3, 2022 by Captain Keen 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted November 3, 2022 It's quite simply Icarus Alien Vanguard and followed up by The Rebirth. Haven't met anything that resonates with me quite like these two. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zulk RS Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) I said it before and I'll say it again, Empyrion. Search it on Doom World and you will find it. I think it requires GZDoom but it. is. AWESOME! EDIT: It seems I have been misspelling the name of my favorite wad all this time. This is the real link: Edited November 3, 2022 by Zulk RS 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wyrmwood Posted November 5, 2022 It tends to be the most recent really good wad I played and I seem to have either done good research or been lucky as most of them have been really good. So it changes all the time! Played Solar Struggle quite a few times recently, partly cause it's great and partly cause it's quite chill compared with some wads out there. So that maybe current favorite but Lost Civilization was amazing too, oh and 2022 ADO. See.... I can't choose! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Garlichead Posted November 5, 2022 (edited) I tend to prefer more traditional wads than gzdoom or slaugther-esque designs. I also, have a soft spot for Doom Cute aesthetic. Some of my favorite wads includes in no particular order. 1. Icarus Alien Vanguard: one of the first wads I played. I replay it every now and then, and while it has aged a little bit it brings a lot of nostalgia of rediscovering doom during the early 2000s when in college. 2. TVR: i have beat this one a lot of times, solo, coop, pistol start, etc. Whenever i want to test a new Doom port i give this one a run. Love the Doom Cute design, the new midi pack, the cool levels (the worm map, the mansion, the opening). 3. Doom Zero: love the puzzly short levels, love the new animations and the balance between exploration and action. 4. The Darkening Episode 1: this one plays great on coop. As it is short, it tends to be great for an evening play with new people, feels like a half step between Doom and Quake 1. 5. Anomaly Report: in my mind this is the spiritual successor to TVR. Awesome music, and great combination of Doom Cute, narrative maps and some action packed levels. I love how you always know where you need to go, the level geometry makes is it very hard to get lost. Special Mentions. 1. Jiffy Bag: short action packed levels, love playing this one on coop. Great mapset. 2. Freedoom: not a huge fan of the campaign itself (i dont think i have ever beat it), but love the idea behind it. I use it a lot to distribute wads that i really like to friends who are not that into Doom. 3. Ray Mohawk 1 (or any of Doomkid maps to be honest): similar to the Darkening, short maps, short campaign, great for coop. Love the 80s midis, always gets me into good mood. TheSlipgateStudios Posted November 6, 2022 I'm not much on custom wads, but It Only Gets Worse will always have a special place in my heart. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
volleyvalley Posted December 26, 2022 (edited) My two most favorite PWADS are Alien Vendetta and Scythe. These two megawads have an obvious grasp of what makes a Doom level good and challenging. What I personally hate about most modern maps is that they're way too over detailed, but both of these wads nail it in the detailing department. Edited December 29, 2022 by volleyvalley PWADS instead of IWADS and spelled 'favorite' right 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Captain POLAND Posted December 26, 2022 Probably Okuplok, but if you mean megaWADs, then maybe Alien Vendetta. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
thelamp Posted December 26, 2022 Despite it's flaws, Eviltech. This is purely subjective and the result of nostalgia for the time in my life when I played it; if I'm being objective then of course the greatest wad would have to be WOWED 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Somniac Posted December 27, 2022 Alien Vendetta, Scythe 2 and Deus Vult are the ones I probably have the most nostalgia and fondness for, buuut there's a lot more to it than just those three of course. Requiem, Hell Revealed II, Chord series, Scythe and Scythe X, Demonfear, CC2, Grove, Tei Tenga, Plutonia 2, Dark7, Equinox to name a few older ones. Also Curse of D'sparil for Heretic. Newer, as in 2010 onwards: CC4, Revilution, THT Threnody, DTWID, D2TWID, Sunlust, again to name but a few. I believe Shadows of Cronos (Hexen) belongs in this category. Since I came back to Doom in 2020: Angry Quilt series (not because I made bits for two of them, I thought the idea was really clever), Serenade, Anomaly Report, Slith, Box of a Thousand Demons, Dreamcatcher Apparatus, Solar Struggle... ...and I'm still forgetting loads. There are hidden gems on idgames that I will probably never find either. Whoever said Doom is the neverending game was right on the money. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fairen Posted December 27, 2022 Picking one favourite is always a silly game, but a few of my faves that I go back to every now and then: Revilution. Good map designs and themes, a good level of difficulty, and some very memorable levels (Fortress of Bullets, Maps 11 and 21). Pirate Doom. Great aesthetic, expansive levels, an arsenal of tweaked/new weapons that makes it play quite distinctly from standard Doom. (Also, dynamite. /doomgrin) Threshold of Pain. PSX!Doom-inspired aesthetic, quite large levels, and some neat tricks and gimmicks throughout the WAD. (Like the key passage...to Hell!) Knee-Deep in ZDoom. A very detailed reimagining and expansion of the original Episode 1 of Doom, with solid action throughout and new features. (Also, A Rifle. /doomgrin) Ray Mohawk 2. An absurdly-overpowered arsenal, and maps that (big usually) don't feel cheap and dumb with the challenges they throw against it. (Then again, the flamethrower. /AGGGHHH) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
cutie pie ^^ Posted December 27, 2022 violence.wad its the first wad i played and not only that i also like how it looks like im probably a bit biased since purple is my favourite colour 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Luna_Bourke Posted December 27, 2022 Valiant might just be my favourite, though it is hard to say. It might be a bit too hard, however, it is very original, and has amazing high octane action. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fortress Posted December 27, 2022 Eviternity has it all for me - new monsters, grand sized levels, engaging combat, cool textures, slaughter sections, and other stuff too. It's such an impressive wad. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Then I listened to Nirvana's interview of Skillsaw and had to watch it. It's really impressive. I especially like the super imps and arachno orbs. The chaingun is awesome too. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
