invictius Posted July 29, 2022 At this age of the series, it was fairly authentic, no "plant" actors in with contestants. I meet them in my daily life sometimes and they really do look and sound like people here. It's at 52:05. Ignore silly looking thumbnail. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) I find it hard to believe that was a genuine answer from the contestant. Even if you're not that big into geography but were at least exposed to pictures of world maps in school and even if you didn't know which continent it was from just looking at it, surely you'd be able to tell that "Oooh, the funny drumstick one is upside-down". Unless you were raised in an underground fallout shelter and never went to school and never saw a world map in the 20-odd years that woman has been alive for, you'd know the map looks fucked. Reality shows are about as genuine as Nicki Minaj's butt. Edited July 29, 2022 by Biodegradable 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Shows like that always pick the dumbest and most extreme answers, then use clips of those people only. It's meant to be sensational. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
chungy Posted July 30, 2022 I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt and two major "A" word continent words got mixed up when coming out; a faux pas rather than genuine ignorance. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
OniriA Posted July 30, 2022 Well I don't necessarily disagree with her answer, America has been upside down for a while now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah, the point is that the answers have got to be wrong enough that even the least knowledgeable people among the audience will laugh at the hapless contestants. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

That was the entire idea behind Jay Leno's street segments and stupid headlines back in the early 90's. I'm sure the entire premise has been going on for centuries before that. Show people someone saying something incredibly stupid, even if you're just paying them to say something incredibly stupid, and your audience will laugh and feel better about themselves. It's the lowest form of entertainment imaginable. At least Conan had the decency to poke fun at the "You can't make this up" headlines. LadyMistDragon Posted July 30, 2022 I think like maybe 5-10 percent? I have a rather low opinion of my fellow American residents but on the other hand, most of us have probably come across people like this at sometime or another. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
