Muusi Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) I guess this counts? A while back i bought an arcade cab with an LCD screen in it as a project. I'm a huge fan of CRT's so of course i wanted to modify it with a more appropriate screen. For whatever reason it was made with only 1 player controls in mind when it has the space for 2 players when proper arcade button placement is used. Removing the disrespectful LCD was very satisfying. Of course as this cab was built for one in mind, there was no space for a CRT. My only solution was to make a hole, and i did. With horrible looking results. CRT guts hanging out and still no real idea how to cover it. At first i decided to box the guts in a wooden cover and just leave it like that, maybe painting it. It looked terrible. This was already quite an expensive project and the rear kept bugging me. Then i moved on to the front parsol glass which would go in front of the screen. Pretty much all cabinets ive seen had a front glass. Also my childhood TV had one so this was mandatory. This meant i also had to redo the controller board. I decided not to go the lazy route and fully extended the sides to cover the rear of the CRT. The (almost) finished product. Still needs a completely new controller board with 2 player controls, a coin door and most important of all, a new finish and a vinyl for the top light panel. It runs a Raspberry Pi3 outputting a 240p analog RGB signal through the Pi's GPIO. It's my first ever cabinet and i think it came out pretty nice :) I will definitely run PSX Doom on it. I guess saying "i made" the cab is not exactly right. More like i modified it. Edited July 31, 2022 by Muusi 19 Quote Share this post Link to post

Stupid having to work for a living and having a loving partner to spend time with. Grr. I did debate the merits of LCD vs CRT. I settled on LCD for mine because it fit the computer I wanted to use to drive it but could also be far easier replaced in the event of failure. Good condition CRTs are bloody hard to find around here. I have found like one decent one in the last 10 years, and even that one more fell into my lap by sheer luck than anything. An LCD can be acceptable but it should really be a 4K one to produce the most accurate possible mimic of a CRT image with the use of the CRT-Royale shader. Of course CRT-Royale needs a decent computer too. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Muusi Posted August 4, 2022 A small update to the cab. I didn't like how short the cab was, to the point that playing was uncomfortable. Made a riser for it and now I'm happily playing without having to bend my knees to get a comfortable position. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

We love PSX Doom here too! Depending on your setup, running PSX Doom thru Duckstation or an original system is you best bet. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

user76828904 Posted August 5, 2022 @Muusi With this description I can imagine a Doom coin-op arcade version that never was. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Muusi Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) Cab update. Waiting for the PCB for player 2 controls, coin door and mechanisms, really don't know what to do next. Probably make the rest of the cab black and then find a place to get artwork for it. Edited August 11, 2022 by Muusi 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
user76828904 Posted August 11, 2022 With two controls you can play deathmatch in split screen, he. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
