Yes, ng+ map5 has twice the cacos but they've all been squashed. Its just to help speed things up while retaining the drama of a ton of cacos, and to let people move freely around the map without getting walled in by flying meat

I believe it was @skillsaw who recently said that there's a hole in the Doom 2 bestiary for a squishy flying monster. And I think that pre-crushed cacos are a really neat solution to that lol.

 

By the way, how goes the wad? Is it approaching idgames status?

Yeah I think its ready for idgames. I'll wait a few more days for any bug reports and aim to upload it this weekend, but if anyone wants a preview of the current release candidate then here's a link:

The only change from the last version is a tweak to map 10 that probably only continuous players will ever see as it involves killing the cyber early.

Also, I updated demo island so that it is actually playable, in case anyone wanted to murder 1000 imps for some reason

Overboard is now on idgames

 

This version fixes a couple of issues in the last one I posted, hopefully that is enough bugs fixed to call this the final release.

 

Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed and told me about broken stuff.

 

Ok ignore all that, because there is a fucking bug that stops it working at all. I'll let you know when its sorted

Cheers. The current release doesn't work in prboom/dsda doom, havent checked in other ports but I've uploaded a fixed version and will tell you all when it arrives in the archive

@mouldy At 234 likes (and counting) I would like to extent my heartfelt congratulations on achieving, as far as I know, the new Doomworld crown for the post with the highest number of likes.

 

You've bumped my project (which had held the record, I believe, since 2018) down to number two. Many congratulations!

Heh, well I guess taken as an average over the past 7 years its probably not so impressive. I just checked out the trailer for your project and it looks insane, definitely have to give that a go

Just finished now.

 

The music on this map is the driving force that made me run to the end.
Yeah you know, this map has a lot of toilets.
For realism, sit on the toilet after running on Delta touch.
I skipped New Game Plus because I lost interest.

 

It was fun!

Adding harder versions of the maps and thereby making extra options for difficulty is genius. Very cool idea and very cool maps.

@mouldy Hopefully this isn't the last we see of you in terms of these excellent wads. You've got to be one of the most idiosyncratic DOOM mappers out there and I love everything you put out.

I finally tried playing Overboard as I saw the bug fix was in place. However, I'm getting an error: P_InitPicAnims: bad cycle from GRAYSLM1 to GRAYSLM4. That wouldn't happen to be the original idGames release bug, or some new? I use DSDA-Doom v0.24.0, Doom 2 IWAD and complevel 9. The accompanied text file indicates that "This is a bug-fix to replace previously uploaded version of overboard"...

 

Never mind -- I re-downloaded it, and now it seems to launch just fine. Strange though, I first downloaded it 3-4 hours ago or so, well after the announcement that the fixed version is online.

Looks like your page hadn't updated yet for whatever internet reason.

 

I'm sure there will be a future update, I've already seen that co-op mode is missing the key on map 3 (guess nobody tried out co-op mode). I will leave it a while though in case there is other stuff people find.

Had so much fun I went again. I felt like so close to being able to do a save less on this but for the most part I'm just messing around here lol 

 

I'm just having fun regardless these scenarios definitely make you engaged and the action never stops even when you play it over and over

alrgight - I finished it - must faster than I usually do stuff but I had so much fun man - seriously - the NG+ was super fascinating to me  -add 1 more monster to make it 666 lol

 

anywho big fan - will play going down next and look forward to any other stuff you may do in time

Cheers mate. There used to be 666 enemies and i removed one by accident in the last update. I might have to fix that

That's just due to how /idgames parsed the text file. The text file itself is fine, but the site read "After the 6 maps there is a credits map" and decided what came after was the credits.

It's probably confused by the word "credits". I'll try changing that in the approaching update.

 

The update isn't anything to get excited about by the way, it will mainly fix problems with co-op, but it'll still desync everyone's demos probably. Just so you know.
