QuaketallicA Posted August 23, 2022 The Win 7 taskbar is back!!! I wondered if it was just nostalgia, but nope, switching back to Win 10 default look it's like night and day. I guess I forgot just how ugly Win 10 taskbar was because I got used to it. Never going back now! https://startisback.com/ 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jello Posted August 23, 2022 (edited) I've been using ClassicShell, and now OpenShell since I installed Windows 10 back in 2019 or so. It's always worked fine for me, and it's free. I'm not sure where they get off on charging for a product like this. It was one of the first programs I installed, and it brought back the more familiar Windows 7 start menu. Honestly I think it looks better than startisback. Edit: Well, and I had been using ClassicShell since 2014, when I got a new computer with Windows 7 on it. Edit again: There are videos on the internet, but I would highly suggest if you're not liking the start menus, look at OpenShell. The number of options they have for customization is pretty impressive. And again, it's free, and open source. Edited August 23, 2022 by Jello 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Personally, I actually prefer the Win10 start menu to the older ones on 7 and XP. The StartIsBack program lets you choose if you want that classic Windows style start menu, or Win 8.1, or Win 10 or any combination. I disable it because I actually like the revamped start menu in Win 10. What I didn't like was how ugly the taskbar was. The Aero Glass was just so much nicer and easier to see. This brings that visual aesthetic back for me, though like I said it's customizable to your liking. Edited August 23, 2022 by QuaketallicA 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
QuaketallicA Posted August 23, 2022 The other program I've had since a while is Translucent TB. Brings back the blur effect that lets you see the wallpaper behind your taskbar. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted August 23, 2022 StartAllBack is far more important on Windows 11 where it not only alters the taskbar's style but also swaps out the broken piece of shit for a working variant. I still installed OpenShell on top of it for the Windows 95 start menu. It perfectly hides almost all the shittiness in modern UI variants. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuris Posted September 2, 2022 I have to say, i really like the Metro Start of Windows 8.1 and i use the Full Screen one on Win 10, its pretty nice to group Programs. What i would really wish for is that they wouldnt mess around with the Options so much. The "Appification" of it made everything so stupidly worse, everything is splittet crazy apart, miles away and takes so much unnecessary blank Space. It starts with something so stupidly easy as to change Resolution or your Wallpaper, why did they split it apart? I wish they would have a App Interface Version of Windows and a Classic Pro one. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
pilottobombadier Posted September 9, 2022 You guys are going to hate me for this, but I actually really liked Windows 10's UI. It was a a great compromise to old+new, unlike Windows 8, which moved too far too fast. I agree with 11, I really do not like what was done with the Start menu; at least you can left-align, but I can't move the bar to the side of my screen anymore without editing the registry. Due to the fact that I have a tech support job, I'm not messing with the UI because my customers lack the...experience to do so. Makes it a lot easier to guide them if I need to. But jesus h fucking christ, I'm using a PC, not a tablet! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
