New Edited Feature: Is This the Best Ancient Aliens Level?

Hey there, just finished a try-hard edited feature talking about my favourite Ancient Aliens level.  Spoilers, it's Map 16: Leave your Sol Behind, but you're gonna have to watch to know why I feel this way 🤐.  However I thought it would be interesting to have a discussion about what people thought about my pick, whether you disagree, and if so, what is your favourite AA level?

 

Like mentioned in the vid, Map 16 is actually #36 on the Top 100 Memorable Wads list, but Map 24: Culture Shock is #5.  I can see why Culture Shock is there, it has an impressive, unique visual style in the wad, but for me I thought Map 16 edged it out because I enjoyed the journey so much.  I've noticed that I really enjoy explorative adventures with interesting details and atmospheres, so I can see why literally leaving your sun behind made such an impression on me.  But I'm interested to hear other takes too.  Anyway, hope you enjoy the vid!

Serious answer: I prefer map16, a bit more dynamic and I dig the visual style a bit more. 

 

Equally serious answer: whichever far and in between AA map I don't need to wear shades indoors to play is a winner in my book.

I may agree with you. In any case, I think I prefer map16 to map24. At least in my recent(ish) playthrough Culture Shock was the point I was exhausted and didn't have that great time with it -- although that's not because of Culture Shock, but rather the map preceding it which drained me empty.

 

Then again I don't remember all the levels that well. I think my favourite episode of AA was the first one, but I guess that's only saying that the first 10 levels are most consistently good whereas others have (possibly) higher highs and (definitely) lower lows.

I still haven't played AA, but this concentrated look at a level you obviously adore reminded me of my favourite @MtPain27 video (his video essay on The Mucus Flow). It's great to hear not just enthusiasm, but an attempt to understand why you yourself feel that way about the map. Keep it up!
