Peaved T-40 Posted August 28, 2022 I'm looking for a do it all launcher/moding interface that will handle everything from the Wolfenstein 3D engine all the way through to at least id Tech 2 but preferably id Tech 4 as Doom 3 has a source port now. Does something like this actually exist? It would be amazing to be able to handle moding and launching Wolfenstine, Doom, Quake and other games that use those engines all from one interface. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted August 29, 2022 I don't think so. The parameters used to load custom stuff are different from game to game. Wolfenstein 3D doesn't have any, the way to go is to rename and replace the game's data files with those from the mod, and that can also include the game's exe too, since a lot of Wolf 3D games use a custom engine. In Doom it's -file whatever.wad. In Quake it's -game whateverfolder. So just for this alone, for a simple launcher that does nothing but launching, without any of the fancy features you can see in things like Doom Launcher (mods thumbnailed by their titlepic, stats keeping, /idgames integration etc.) you'd need the program to have dedicated code for each game engine just to know how to actually launch them and how to find the custom content they can be launched with. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
m8f Posted August 29, 2022 A launcher for completely different software? It's an operating system. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm aware of how much would need to go into it. But it's far from impossible so I just wanted to see if anyone had done it 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
