Recommended plugins for Doom editors?

I'm relatively new to Doom editing through Ultimate Doom Builder and after experimenting with map making for a few months I'm wondering if there are any additional worthwhile patches available to download that can be used with Ultimate Doom Builder to add additional functionality/buttons to the editor that aren't already in the base download.

Most of the required plugins are already included. If you are new, just keep learning the base functions. Believe me, it will keep you distracted for a loong time. I'm finding new features even after 7 years of using it.

Most of the plugins which were available for GZDoom Builder were updated and are now included in UDB, except for three of them:

DrawText, HeightLevels and Lighting (which was never really finished but somewhat usable).

 

Then, for GZDoom UDMF, there is editing of 3D constructs (floors and arches) in Visual Editing Mode.

Largely unnoticed, or maybe just underused by most GZDoom UDMF mappers, is UDBscripting and 3D_Floor-Extrude.

 

Bridgeburner covers a few advanced editing features in his video tutotrials.

Just check Youtube for videos by other mappers.

Is there any way those extra plugins you mentioned in the first paragraph (Draw Text, Height Levels, and Lighting) can be acquired in a way they're usable with UDB?

Not unless a dev would be willing to convert them to be usable with UDB.

If you want to try them out to see if they are useful then you have to use GZDoom Builder and stick them into the Plugin folder.

Terrain

Coming to think of old helper apps, there is an ancient Terrain app by Grubber (ZTerrain) which uses heightmaps to set floor and ceiling heights. But nowadays terrain can be done easier with jval's DD_Terrain or better still UDB's Visual Editing Modes.

Gave the Lighting patch a quick try in UDB and as expected it crashes immediately upon use.
Can't say for the other two atm but I bet the same thing happens with them- guess I'll have to take out my copy of GZDoom builder and configure it to use these plugins then.
