MadeAnAccJustToPostThis Posted September 5, 2022 I got my doom port, I have GZdoom, everything seems ready. However, whenever I drag my Doom 2 file to GZdoom, it gives me this error message. I've tried one out of two of the things it suggests I could do, but the the other one is so confusing that I have no idea on what do do. Does anybody have any tips that a beginner like myself who is not good with computers could follow in order to get GZdoom to load up Doom 2? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted September 5, 2022 Which one of those two things did you try, and which one do you not understand? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MadeAnAccJustToPostThis Posted September 5, 2022 #2 was confusing. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lucius Wooding Posted September 5, 2022 (edited) You should read up on the difference between IWADs and PWADs, an IWAD is required for GZDoom to run anything, and it needs to be in a specific folder (or you can tell it in preferences where to look). Place Doom2.wad into whatever folder that says and there should be a window listing all the IWADs it found the next time you launch it. In the future if you wanted to play regular Doom 2 (or Heretic or Plutonia or whatever) you could just start up GZDoom and it will bring up a dialog with those listed. If you wanted to play a PWAD (Ancient Aliens, Sunlust, whatever) then you'd either double click on that wad, or drag and drop it. EDIT: Option #2 is kinda irrelevant, but there should be a file that gives GZDoom instructions when it launches. Leave it alone and just put a copy of the wad into the application support path it gives you, it's far harder to mess up. Lucius Wooding Posted September 5, 2022 3 minutes ago, Caged said: Try some other sourceport like zDoom or PrBoom+. If the game doesn't load, there's a high probability your iwad files are corrupted. I highly doubt that, I think he just needs to put the ones he has into the application's file. It's looking for Doom2.wad or any other IWAD in the application support/gzdoom folder and failing to do so because they're empty. It won't (and rightfully shouldn't) search the entire system for WADs if it's built to assume they're in a certain place. GZDoom can't distribute copies of Doom 2 so it's not there automatically. Any programmer worth his salt would give a distinct error message for a corrupted file, and it'd crash after finding it. Graf is better than that. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
