Confirmed official titles of Leo Sieben's Perdition's Gate / Hell To Pay music tracks

It's the thrilling sequel to this post, the next installment of the epic "info I've been sitting on for months now hoping I could gather more of the surrounding details and reveal it all at once, but it's been a while now, so I'll just post what I have" series.

Earlier this year I had another chat with Leo Sieben, the composer who wrote some of TNT: Evilution's most beloved MIDIs. In our previous discussion, I managed to get him to accept the community-created titles which had long been attributed to those MIDIs - but those are not the only Doom MIDIs with Leo's name attached to them. Hell To Pay and Perdition's Gate, a pair of megawads commercially sold by Wraith Corporation, have a mostly-shared soundtrack which features even more of his work. Unfortunately, the Wraith Corp megawads are not as popular as Final Doom is, so no community titles have been invented for its MIDIs.

Leo admitted to me that he doesn't consider himself much of a song-namer, complete with a fun little story I'd feel remiss not to share with you folks as well.

(He then sent me a raw cut of Start Developed; here's a download link if you're curious.)

After a bit of advocating for songs deserving to be given names, I gave him some song title suggestions to chew on and he ended up deciding they worked well enough to be the tracks' new official titles - here they are!

Cruisin' With Devils - Hell To Pay map07 / Perdition's Gate map12

Flash Flood - Hell To Pay map10, 16 / Perdition's Gate map08, 14, 29

Headshot Hole - Hell To Pay map06, 26 / Perdition's Gate map20

Interplanetary Mission - Hell To Pay Intermission

Javelin Juice - Hell To Pay map11, 20, 25 / Perdition's Gate map27

Maximum Horsepower - Hell To Pay map13, 28 / Perdition's Gate map05, 26

Since Tom Mustaine already named his tracks, this means we have confirmed titles for almost the entire HTP/PG soundtrack. As you saw in the first image, Leo doesn't recall having worked on the songs that this video calls "Hot As Hell" (HTP map17 / PG map13), "Delta Area" (HTP map31 / PG map06, 16), and "The Escape" (HTP map32 / PG map30), which I think we can safely take as confirmation that they are not his.

I'm 99.9% sure that Hot As Hell is a Tom Mustaine track, owing to its simple groove and extreme panning. It was not mentioned or named on the old personal site where he hosted all his music (which would explain its misattribution to Leo), but despite my best efforts to contact him for confirmation, Tom Mustaine has proven VERY difficult to get a hold of.

The other two tracks don't seem to match either Leo or Mustaine's style. DoomWiki and MobyGames credit a third composer - one Jan Šinkmajer - with having worked on Hell To Pay, so it's possible he is the composer behind "Delta Area" and "The Escape", but I haven't made an effort to contact him about it quite yet.

I don't know how to end this post and I won't attempt to be clever about it. Post over. Enjoy.

So really this thread should be titled “I came up with titles and Leo said that was fine.” :P

This is awesome! It’s about time we have some standardized names for these tracks. The PG/HtP soundtracks it’s quite possibly my favorite commercially released Doom soundtrack so it’s great to see it get some attention. I’m intrigued by those three unattributed tracks - I hadn’t heard of Jan’s contribution before and I really, really like the one you referred to as Escape (I had titled it Perdition’s Gate, myself, because it was exclusive to PG).

Thanks for digging up this history and giving these tracks the respect they deserve. As always, Cammy, you are a strength to this community.

@Faceman2000 Ha, well that title may be truer but I quite dislike coming on so strong. Thank you for your kind words!

The two mystery midis definitely slap, I really like the techno bounce of Escape and Delta Area has some cool, evocative chords that are just fun to listen to. I'm hoping I can get ahold of Jan soon.
