I don't know how to recolor textures

With slade just right click the texture then select graphics. Color remap, colorize and tint are your options. Color remap is the most useful imo since you can swap individual color ranges. Very easy to use. Just remember to add the edited textures to you're patch table if you're making copies and not just replacing the old ones.

I...might actually do something here. Although I don't know how to recolor textures and I won't guarantee I'll look it up somewhere.

You can change the color of the lights (that was what i thinked).... :-) !!

Very tricky pattern to play with, but even in the barest of its WIP form it can give rise to some very interesting light games. Also remember that vanilla textures have a wider range of colors than it might seem at first, if we think of them as colors instead of textures :)

Thanks for that although it's hard to know again if I will. Drawing circles won't take long at all in GZDoom Builder but I do have some other things that could take up some time.

Just bumping the thread slightly (great responses to this so far by the way!) to point out that today at work I asked the child who had done the drawings as to what the patterns were meant to be, and he told me that they were 'flowers'.

Whether this helps in any way for any maps that are created for this birthday request, I cannot say. You don't have to make the maps flowery-themed or anything, but just thought I'd tack this extra information on in case it inspires anything.

No flowers in mine I'm afraid though, if we want to carry on with the gardening metaphor, there will be plenty of mowing down to do.

I'm a terrible human being. Sorry.

Happy birthday and keep up the good work! I've been looking for inspiration to create a map, I will see what I can get done before the 3rd.

Edit:

Here is a peak at what I have so far, 3 ovals/circles left. If nothing else it is visually fun to look at, not sure how it will play, but look forward to finishing it up and posting it for you to enjoy.

Got mine done! It is UDMF format, with resources included in the wad file.

I would have added more of the winding design of the drawing if I had time. That said, the map still does have some of the almost-lollipop shapes of the drawing, as well as some flowers.

I can't wait to see you play it! I want to see you play it live, if possible. I'll do my best to be on stream quickly.

Sbday wad

Happy birthday, John!

Thanks for the first submission @obake.

Just a quick bump to remind that the deadline for any map entries will be coming up on Monday (3rd October), and that at some point in the next few days afterwards I will stream all the maps on my Twitch channel.

Happy Birthday! Life gets busy so I am cutting it close but here it is. I hope you have fun with it.

Didn't really have time to balance it so sorry if it is a bit jank with the combat, visually I think it looks fun but has some rough edges.

Suitepee Bday Level

Music: Stickerbrush Symphony custom midi from vgmusic

Engine: GZDoom

Format: UDMF Doom II

Jumping, crouching and freelook all supported (not required)

Edit: Touched up a few things, and whipped up a quick sky texture to make things look a little better. Sorry I didn't have time to playtest. @Suitepee if you haven't downloaded yet the link is to the new version.

Well thank you to the four mappers (two in one map) that submitted an entry for this birthday request so far!

I will be streaming the maps on Wednesday night via my Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/johnsuitepee) at around 6pm GMT.

(EDIT: Changed stream time to Wednesday night from Tuesday to allow any last-minute entries)

Is it too late to do anything? 3rd of october has already passed

If you're keen on making a map for this, I suppose I could extend the streaming deadline by an extra day to Wednesday night instead. Might give one or two others an extra bit of time also.

@ShakarAtar and @obake, no spoilers for Suitepee just wanted to say that I love the aesthetics and flow of your levels. Can't wait to see them on stream.

Thanks so much! I can't wait to see your map as well.

@Suitepee Thanks, I'm really glad you liked it. Sorry I joined late and missed my map, but I watched the VOD afterwards. I didn't have time to playtest the combat, and it showed lol. This was my first map that I have ever released publicly and I appreciate all the kind words from everyone.
