Steam Deck and Doom Source Ports?

I've been considering getting a Steam Deck lately and wanted to ask the community if anyone knows about this one.

So I wanted to know:

A. If any current source ports are compatible with it

  - Also if there are any known issues using the Steam Deck as a controller to play Doom (and wads/mods/etc)

B. If I would need a launcher program to help configure .wad file load order and other resources necessary.

Note: I have legal copies of all the .wad files (purchased on Steam but also separated into a unique folder) and huge folders consisting of years worth of Doom-compatible downloads

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

I actually created an account to answer your question! Yes, GZDoom has a Flatpack version which makes it super easy to install and use on the Steamdeck in desktop mode. There is also a version of ZDL that works fine in Linux as well. Check out this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBjKa0q_cLg. Smaller channel, but between this video and his other video about GZDoom, you will get up and running in no time! I'm currently playing through Valiant on my Deck as we speak with a mouse and keyboard. I find it runs better on my deck then my windows laptop

GZDoom should be totally capable of running, and running well, on Steam Deck, as its CPU and GPU are fully ready for it for the foreseeable future, Vulkan support and all.

It's more likely to be CPU limited than anything, but even there the Deck is no slouch.

GZDoom really does run great on the deck- I had it at 1440p 144hz and it seemed to be fine. It's a little tricky getting mods/ ZDL to work, because ZDL doesn't seem to respect symlinks like it supports shortcuts on windows and GZDoom's flatpack installs to a hidden directory which ZDL also won't find. I am an absolute linux novice so if I could get it up and running anyone can

Luxtorpeda is an awesome tool for specifically this purpose! It allows you to bypass the typical Proton setup and load native Linux source ports of old games that are on Steam.

https://github.com/luxtorpeda-dev/luxtorpeda

Luxtorpeda has support for a whole bunch of older games, including Doom itself, where it's got built-in binaries for Chocolate Doom, PRBoom+, GZDoom, Doomsday, Odamex, and my personal favorite Doom Retro. (This is actually an easy way to get Doom Retro running on Linux!) It also has support for launchers like QZDL and Doom Runner as well as the Doomseeker multiplayer server browser.
