TheRevenant212 Posted September 26, 2022 (edited) So I recently downloaded Doom Explorer (along with Zdaemon and Zandronum) to play some deathmatch. But whenever I try to join a server, after downloading the wads, I get a message saying that "this operation requires elevation". Can someone please help me out? I also tried Doom Seeker but that has IT'S OWN problem. Whenever I join a server, and it loads up after downloading the wads, I get a message saying to make sure I am playing on the same wad. This is so confusing. Edited September 26, 2022 by TheRevenant212 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted September 26, 2022 Are you running Doom Explorer as an administrator? If not, you may want to give that a try. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I tried this and although the message went away something ELSE happened. Now, whenever I try to join a match, even though I have all my source ports installed, it just re-installs them. And then does nothing. Does god hate me or something? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted September 26, 2022 Are there multiple "user accounts" on this PC? It sounds like you might be on a secondary account with less permissions (this is just a guess though.. I've never seen this!) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheRevenant212 Posted September 26, 2022 From what I can tell, no. I rewatched your vid and I don't think I missed anything. Thank god I am getting a new PC in the coming months. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted September 26, 2022 Where do you currently have Doom Explorer installed? Is it under Program Files (x86)? present under C:\User\YourUser\AppData\Roaming? or in a specific directory on c:\ (or whichever drive you happen to use for various programs). As for the ports that you're using, are they in a similar location? The WAD directory (or directories), are they/it separate? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'll check 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheRevenant212 Posted September 26, 2022 (edited) Okay, so I have all of the IWADS in their own folders, but I have my source ports saved onto my desktop directory (mainly because it makes playing WADS easier) Edited September 26, 2022 by TheRevenant212 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted September 26, 2022 Ah, in this case you may want to avoid installing the ports directly onto your desktop; if you want to make them user-specific place them under AppData\Roaming at least. For general convenience a shortcut to the said directory can be created and placed onto the desktop if required. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Hopefully my luck changes 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted September 27, 2022 With the setup here, I tend to have it in a directory under d:\ (originally c:\ - but that's a minor detail). While testing Doom Explorer it was similarly placed inside a test directory, the port and wad directories were then set to my current doom installation area. I can only speak for running ZDaemon specifically though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
bond Posted September 27, 2022 Interesting.. never used ZDaemon/Zandronum installers and didn't know where programs are placed by default. Imho its not good idea to place program files in hidden folders - Doom Explorer in this situation cant find them (unless the user allows hidden folders in windows explorer). TheRevenant212: I suggest you install all programs (and wads) in a folder with normal access, for example C:\GAMES 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
