Dimon12321 Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) So, it's time for an event. I've been dying to make some kind of an interactive with Doom members, but every time something was going wrong: personal life difficulties, family troubles and now the war in Ukraine. Hence, it constantly happens to be not a good time to do your stuff. Now, it's not the best time too, but I decided to initiate it on lenient rules, so nothing will go wrong. Because you can always leave things you'd like to do for later up to the end of your life. So, here's how the event goes: 1. You nominate a single map of any wad you'd like to see a UV-Max Tool-assisted Speedrun (TAS) of, by posting it in this topic. 2. I collect your nominations and analyse them. Further nominations won't be taken into account. 3. I create poll with 8 maps I like the most. I hope I'll be able to edit this topic to add it. Otherwise, I'll create another topic with a poll. 4. I declare the voting is over and take the nomination the most people have voted for. Note: in case I finish it and there is enough time to beat another nomination to the deadline, then I take the 2nd most voted nomination. 5. On 25th of December I post finished maps to TAS demos (part 2) topic and refer them in this topic.Nominations format The wad name should be linked to dsdarchive (preferably), or Doomworld's downloads or idgames database, and tagged in brackets. Quote The Rebirth (dsda, DW or idgames) - Map 31 Restrictions (rules) for nominations Game: Doom, Doom 2 Complevel: 2, 3, 4, 9, 11 Map terrain: Winter Speedrun record (if exists): less than 5:00 Monsters limit: 200FAQ Q: Why it has to be a winter map? I was willing to nominate E1M1/E3M8/Map 7 etc. A: There are several reasons for this. First, winter setting is not common in Doom and people rarely submit winter maps when it's not winter. If @4shockblast initiates a contest of speedrunning winter maps, I think people will cover pretty much every wad that has winter maps (or at least, a major part of these wads) and such submissions will become even more rare. Second, recent years bring us more and more "surprises". For me, this year become apogee because my country, Ukraine, has to resist Russian full-scale invasion. I celebrate Christmas and New Year rather hubmly since the end of my childhood, but this time I wish a real wonder would happen and Ukraine would push the aggressor away from our official boards and have peace on our terms. Q: What are the deadlines for nominating/voting? A: I'm not a celebrity that attracts attention, so I don't know. Let's say, 5 days for nominations (13th of October) and then 4 days for voting (17th of October). Q: Can I join the event? A: Huh, why not! You can pick up any map from the poll starting from 3rd place by votes and down below. But you have to release your work on the same day as I do: on 25th of December. Q: What kind of TAS you will release? A: You can watch my work in this YT playlist, starting from No Rest for The Living - Map 1. Basically, it will be a fast-pacing run with smooth turning and sometimes with wallrunnins and door vobbings, if it saves times. I don't run for the fastest possible time, but it will be quite fast. The run will be built frame-by-frame in XDRE 2.21. Edited December 25, 2022 by Dimon12321 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
4shockblast Posted October 7, 2022 Alright, since it's winter maps, I guess I'll start with H2H-XMas map 16. For a bit of context, if you check the start of this map, there's a linedef you cross after exiting the beginning that closes all the doors in the map. I would be really curious to see a TAS that uses this trick, should make max much more interesting since the map is totally opened up. I'll probably end up having to do this trick non-TAS anyway, but maybe it will end up too hard. :^) Also there's a tank, so that's cool. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dogmachine Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) [DBP 07: The Merry Christmassy Doom Project ]-Map 05. An optimized run would be pretty nice to see. Edited October 7, 2022 by Dogmachine 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dimon12321 Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) Well... I was expecting more nominations. I don't think there's much point in voting, because it might not attract much attention, and the choice is not that wide. Instead, the comment likes can be considered as votes. Coincidentally, it even matches the sequence of nominations xD So, the order goes like that: 1. H2H-XMas - Map 16 (4) 2. DBP 07 - Map 05 (3) 3. Jumpwad - Map 05 (2) 4. Whitemare 2 - Map 10 (1) Don't know what else to say. Thank you all for nominations! If you think the voting should be initiated, then leave comments below. If everything's fine, then see you on December, 25th. UPD: I see, people started changing their mind regarding nominations. I have recorded the quantities =P I'll give it a shot to beat first 3 nominations, but if not, remaining ones will be beat later. There's not enough space to gain enough speed to skip this linedef. Turbo tics are required 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Turbo tics are required I think there's a very precise angle you can do it from. If you need help, I can try to find it. You also have the option of .000000 trick to build speed on the start wall so you have a higher starting speed IIRC. Also, you can get a punch boost from the rev. But I'm pretty sure I remember doing it without any of that, just very very difficult. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I even waited for the elevator to fully raise down, so I won't spend any tics in mid-air. It required 4 turbo-tics after I'm free to move, resulting in having 26 momentum. Well, it's possible to drop one of those, but still it's far away from true success. It's very surprising how you managed to do that. I can assume it's kinda possible if I follow strict coordinate precision, so the linedef won't detect the player neither prior nor after crossing it. I'm wondering, how much momentum does it take at least, in the perfect situation. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm wondering, how much momentum does it take at least, in the perfect situation. Line skips aren't so much about speed as much as where you are relative to the linedef right before you cross it. The basic process of getting them (in non-east/north directions) is to run into it at such a speed that you end up really really close just before crossing, and at least 16 units I believe in front after. So you really need around 16-17 speed to get one, but it means more precise positioning and movement before the skip. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dimon12321 Posted December 25, 2022 Alright. So, it's Christmas time and I'm glad to present two TAS movies: H2H-Xmas Map 16 and DBP07 Map 7, aka. 1st and 2nd most rated nominations.
