Even if "3D Realms" were the developers of IF, that still wouldn't count as industry veterans since the current 3DR has nothing to do with the original 3DR who developed Duke3D or other great games. The original 3DR went bankrupt in 2009 due to DNF's development. Interceptor Entertainment (or was it the parent company of Interceptor? I forgot) somehow acquired the name 3D Realms and then rebranded themselves as such.

This is a week old review of a modern game that uses old school combat mechanics, Doom Eternal. It's more substantial and sincere than any review I've seen of the freeze-dried, knockoff retro shooters which even the loudest proponents are disinterested in actually playing.

Have you ever thought, just for a moment, that maybe new-wave retro shooters are just not for you? So far all I've been able to ascertain from what you're trying to say (whatever that actually is) that you don't like them because they are stylised and you find them boring because of it?

I liked what I played of it.  The guns have punch, the levels wind and wend the way good Doom levels do, the music bops, and it's an all-around good time.  My only complaint is that some of the lower-tier monsters can look a little samey due to their denaturation, but the higher tier the monsters and weapons got the less of a problem it became, so it's not a hangin' offense, and other than that minor nitpick I think the game looks great in motion.

Hey, don't know if you know this, but a game can be played by few people but still be regarded as great, this is known as a "cult classic" (Or sleeper hits) and they can be found in all forms of media, movies and games especially. You say you dislike the "fake" software look of games, but the only thing really fake here is you and your arguments. And this is coming from someone who is rather lukewarm about Prodeus (It just didn't impress me like Dusk and Amid Evil did).

 

What's next? You gonna compare the player numbers for multiplayer Dusk to the current iteration of Call of Duty? Because that's about as relevant than your Prodeus - Doom Eternal player count comparison. That's apples and oranges and you should know better than that.

I'd check but that would entail combing through 6 pages of you.
