Help extracting midis from WAD files.

The method i have been using to extract Midis from wads right now is

 

1-Open the WAD on SLADE

2-Get whatever song i want

3-Open it on VirtualMIDISynth

4-Convert it to WAV

 

This works fine, the problem is that it wields 100mb files for 4-5 minutes of music. For longer ones this number can reach up to 1gb which is a lot. Is there a more efficient way to do this that doesn`t take that much storage?

More efficient, I don't know.

What I usually do is record a midi with Audacity while it is playing.

Then I save the song in any convenient format.

If you must convert them from their original midi format, then convert them to mp3 or some other more compressed format instead. WAV files will always take up a great deal of space.

I agree with stewboy, a good 320 kbps mp3 will get you very good results for little disk space.

 

But if you (somehow) notice some audible artifacting even at 320 then you can always compress your wavs or record midis into a flac file, they're still pretty beefy coming in at the low-to-mid 10's of megabytes per 3 minute track where as a good mp3 goes for a good high single-digits mb for a similar track. heck, I've been replacing most of my flacs with mp3s just because of how much disc space that saves. but still even a 44.1 khz 16-bit is gonna be way smaller than a 100mb wav file

 

(also please don't bother with bit-depth or sample rate, 16-bit and 44.1 khz is fine for casual listening)
