Sonikkumania Posted October 29, 2022 You guys have "good" stories. I think we all deserve a drink for surviving through all those bullshit jobs. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
heliumlamb Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) doing motor vehicle inspections. the amount of people who have wanted to just flat out fistfight me over window tint is sadly nonzero, more than one. usually it was fine, other ppl's messy cars never bothered me all that much. when it's up to spec, it's fine, 15 minutes a car in and out. having to awkwardly explain to someone why their vehicle(s) didn't pass an inspection and what to do from there goes over well about 50% of the time. like disappointment/frustration over failing an inspection is a given, and ofcourse there will be people who just do not understand what you are talking about, no matter how simply you attempt to present it. those such cases could still have gone over well. when having to explain to someone that they failed their inspection truly wasn't going over well, there was a high likelihood of the person taking going into a fit of whatever verbal abuse they've been brewing up for whoever is unfortunate enough comes in their life path next, and they will not care about anything you have to say in the process. all of that on top of other duties and positions in that shop. it didn't help that my boss there was a racist meth head who demanded me to show up an hour before opening each morning to stare at the walls and tile floor in the lobby with him for a good 30 minutes or some shit. fuck that dude. It is infuriating arguing with the drunks to stop fucking walking on the goddamn wet wax despite all of the barriers and caution tape and other signs you shouldn't go in there, though. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Endless Posted October 30, 2022 Living in a third world country pretty much means that all jobs are going to be shit, even the ''good'' ones. But if there's something tragic that I learned quite fast is that, IMO, working with family sucks ass. I don't know, maybe it's the culture of job around here, but in general, I would recommend not to work for your family. They took advantage of me, constantly belittle me, called me in whenever they liked even if I was already busy, had no sense of responsibility whatsoever, leaving 3-man jobs to only one person, and, of course, the pay was awful. They would pay me less each time because we are family. Nothing like working 5 hours a day for $1.5 per hour. And staying late doing extra hours because your ''boss'' is out, doing ''errands'', just for him to come at the morning hours, drunk and still enraged by the fact that he has to pay his employee. Honestly, I could work with little pay as long as the boss/work partners are good people. There's nothing worse than being treated like a fucking animal while doing 80% of the earnings for your boss. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Somniac Posted October 31, 2022 Service desk, or rather glorified call centre for a company who's stuff was constantly breaking. On a busy day (aka every day), if you started at 07:00 there'd be 100 or more calls waiting already, so you'd jump in the queue, barely conscious cause its Bastard 'o Clock, headset go BEEP BEEP and off you go, and it doesn't stop til 13-14:00 at least. Other nightmare-inducing features of this battery farm included: - 2 hours per month allocated bathroom break time - way too easy to go over and totally stupid concept. Got called up on it all the time. - People ringing you from the "availability desk" cause you've been in aftercall for 15 seconds finishing the ticket. - People who shouldn't be allowed near computers, ringing you up like its your fault that their life's a misery cause they don't know how to plug an ethernet cable in, or they didn't remember their password, or some other thing that shouldn't really be your problem, but is. - Managers being technically clueless but being managers cause they kissed up to other equally technologically challenged managers. Said managers making hugely unpopular changes to process to make themselves look good. - Being marked as late for being a MINUTE late starting or back to the phone after a break. 3x that = written up. - Other things I have no doubt repressed. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It was my job to hot-wash and then wax all 36 lanes, followed by doing a buff of the floors of the entire building. I hurt my back doing that job and actually quit at one point, only to come back after the boss practically begged me. Then, one night, after my co-worker told me he was "putting up the big bills," I was accused of stealing and banished from the bowling alley for life. I'd practically grown up in that bowling alley, so that was a kick to the balls when the boss did that. Didn't even give me a chance to prove my innocence. My only solace is that the bowling alley is now an Office Depot. Expand Wow that is awful. The complete disrespect is what gets me. I guess Office Depot got the last laugh.
