How to change PLAYPAL and COLORMAP?

Recently i've been playing 2009 sunder and i've come to like the color palette change which it offers some of the items, projectiles etc. and so i've been trying to change the palette of my own WAD wich im working on but i cant seem to figure it out, could anyone help me out? im using boom engine ( doom 2 ) .

SLADE3 has an option to export PLAYPAL as a different format. You can export it as PNG, which produces a picture of squares and then change the color of the squares and import back in. You should then auto-generate the rest of the palettes for tinted screens.

COLORMAP is basically a picture you can also export and edit as such, to import back in you should convert it into Doom Flat (And not Doom GFX)

Okay, i have a question, how do i convert a png file to palette? i cant seem to change the file type without it either becoming corrupted or wrongly registered by slade as a png, and if cant have it be a palette file, then i cant generate the palettes for the tinted screens.

There should be a button to import somewhere, but I don't remember, it's been a while. Probably when you selecting existing playpal lump.

Not just importing png as a lump. From palette editing interface.

Ok so when i go into the playpal lump which is normally generated, and import my playpal.png which i made, the playpal lump becomes corruped, when i import my playpal.png which i convert to .pal by changing the ending from .png, nothing changes.

You select existing PLAYPAL. Import from IWAD if necessary.

To the right there's a palette and seriest of buttons above it. Go to "Import from".

Change file type during file selection to png

Import. The last button is to generate tinted palettes from it.

I Exported the palette as PNG as you originally said, then i edited it in Paint.net, now  when i try to import it back into the wad in slade, slade registers it as a Graphic rather than a palette file. Now if i go into a PLAYPAL lump, click import, select my playpal PNG, it corrupts the Lump, makes it look like the picture i attached.

Alright, i think i figured it out, thanks. That method seems to not work for some reason for me, ill just edit the paypal lump manually in SLADE since that seems to work. Thanks for your help though.

Actually once again, im a moron, when you said to change the file type while importing the file, i though you meant to manually edit the ending of the file in the search bar, i did not think to used the drop down window. It works now as you said, Thanks.

This is only necessary if you need to use a different program to edit the palette.

 

SLADE has a bunch of built in tools for palette editing specifically:

 

The Gradient button allows you to select a range and create a gradient between the beginning and end color

The Tweak button adjusts hue, luminosity, and saturation across a range

The Tint, Colorise, and Invert buttons are pretty self-explanatory (I think tint just blends in the new color whereas colorize is like converting to grayscale and then tinting)

Also you can right-click on a color to change it directly. Annoyingly this doesn't "grab" the color for the selection box so you will have to manually type in the values if you are trying to go from the existing color. The bar at the bottom shows index number, as well as RGB and HSL values for the element you have selected.

Yeah thats what i was gonna do before i found out i was just stupid and did not realize to use the drop down menu.
