Discussion about the Fallout games

Months ago I brought up a Fallout 2 3D remake by a Polish fan on the Bakersfield thread. A playable, but highly WIP demo is now available here (also playable on browser). NOTE: You can change the language by going to the "Opcje" menu and checking the lower right screen inside the menu. Currently, English, Polish (the default), and Russian are available.

Some correction; on that Bakersfield thread I postulated that Jonasz Osmenda, the creator of the Fallout 2 3D Remake, is also using GZDoom for it. Turns out I couldn't be more wrong (it uses an unspecified HTML/JS-based engine).

As it is still an early build, much jankiness (and untranslated parts) is to be expected, although I reckon it has a lot of potential in the future.

I know it's a really early build, but I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with what I'm looking at. It seems like more effort is being put into things like weapon models and the HUD more than anything else. I really don't like the 3D models.

Tim Cain has been releasing a bunch of videos lately talking about Fallout development and his general involvement at Interplay and Obsidian. You can find more on his channel

So apparently, Tim Cain resigned partly because he was being punished for not snitching on his colleagues...

I reciently found out that Fallout 1 has a Dos Version on its Disc and that i can play it through Dosbox on my Smartphone :0

I have an USB Switch on my Workplace, so i can use my Mouse and Keyboard.

My Pauses are now filled with Wasteland Adventures.

Brian Fargo sounds really vindicatory not just with the bonus shenanigans but also immediately escalating to asking Tim if he wanted the marketing person fired just because of the box art thing.

I was trying to follow the Viva New Vegas installation guide, but I cannot go through with it because the Epic Games Store release is not compatible with some of the recommended utilities. :S

Was it one of their free games? Its always at a low sale price on Steam or GOG, its nice to get free things but the games well worth even full asking. GOG's your best bet I'd say, heard its the most stable release so I re-bought that version a few years back.

Eh, I read that there is a patcher for the Epic Games version, but it got taken down on Nexus - apparently because the current version included files that essentially made it a crack. I guess it is only a matter of time before it gets reuploaded, so I guess I can wait until then. I am in no rush anyway.

Anyway, after watching some more Tim Cain videos, I am definitely subscribing to his channel! He seems very insightful and wholesome as far as video game developers go, even when dealing with the inevitable assholes in his comments section:

Anybody who got Fallout New Vegas on Epic Games Store managed to successfully follow the Viva New Vegas guide?

It looks like the Epic Games Patcher is back on Nexus, but the Ultimate Edition ESM Fixes Installer still will not recognize the EGS installation.

I sort of rage-quitted and proceeded to reinstall New Vegas to try again, but this is all so frustrating.

I already own NV on Steam so I don't need it on epic. Also, the game goes pretty cheap on Steam sales so if you don't want to deal with the dumpster fire of Epic Games Launcher then I'd say just wait for that. Yes I am biased towards Steam, yes it is justified.

Huh, what do you know, even Tim Cain hated the time limit in Fallout 1, especially the fact that the game would end should Vault 13 run out of water.

I feel vindicated! :P
