MrFroz Posted October 31, 2022 This thread is for those who like to do something in particular for this month/day of the year, and what is that exactly. In my country, we don't celebrate Halloween per se, but the date can still hold significance to some people for whatever reasons...I remember back when I had my previous YouTube channel 10 years ago, I had uploaded the entirety of AFI's All Hallow's E.P. and it got more views than usual during October. This year, I watched horror movies that were released this month. I saw Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, Halloween Ends, and V/H/S/99. Not much of a great experience though, because the first one was really bad and the latter two were kind of a mixed bag. I also bought some cool games that were at a nifty discount on Steam, like Return of the Obra Dinn and Vampyr (been wanting to play this one in particular for quite some time). And it kinda ends on a sad note for me because today 29 years ago my favorite actor, River Phoenix, died. How about you? 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Not really. I would not mind trick-or-treating or giving kids candies, but that crap is either expensive or unhealthy and since I live in an apartment, kids never come knocking at my door. As such, I do not have any special tradition for this time of the year. I did not know River Phoenix died on Halloween. Damn, that sucks. Anyway, on a lighter note, I must ask: has anyone here ever gone trick-or-treating wearing a Doom-themed disguise? :P EDIT: Return To The Obra Dinn is good! My only regret is that I could not get my aging father to play it with me for old time's sake. Edited October 31, 2022 by Rudolph 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
out_of_service Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Halloween is my favourite day of the year! Autumn has always been my preferred season and the spooky atmosphere leading up to and on Halloween is awesome. I usually celebrate by watching various horror movies, play horror themed games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill, listen to Halloween themed music, read good old fashioned ghost stories and so fourth. On Halloween I always carve a couple of jack-o'-lanterns and display them on the front step. I usually get a mask and hand out tons of candy trying my best not to munch on all of it myself lol. Also, Wishing everyone here a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Edited November 1, 2022 by Piper Maru 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Naarok0fkor Posted October 31, 2022 I always play this song on halloween... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA&ab_channel=michaeljacksonVEVO 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted October 31, 2022 I don't. I had a birthday and there was speedskating/formula one on the telly. I actually dislike Halloween and Carnaval. Its a US thing brought to NL and i don't like it. Its practically a cosplay event. Also don't like horror movies, so... congrats, these things are my kryptonite. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lippeth Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Halloween is the only holiday I do anything for, but in no reverent or meaningful way. This year I went to visit my parents because my sister flew in from Canada, and we carved pumpkins, ate candy, watched horror movies, and just enjoyed family time. We don't acknowledge Christmas or anything else, but Halloween is always a good excuse for us to get together. I should clarify that rarely if ever do I do anything on the day of Halloween, but rather I like to casually soak up the spooky atmosphere for the whole month of October. Murdoch Posted October 31, 2022 Don't and never have. It wasn't really a thing when I was a kid here in New Zealand, though for purely commercial reasons it has crept in more over the last few decades. Even still, it's not a common thing here. Mostly an excuse for people to dress up and get drunk. Don't often see kids out begging for a sugar rush. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I agree with Halloween, but Carnival is not a US Thing. (Now realizing that I'm probably misreading this lol) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
act Posted October 31, 2022 I would say, but that would be against my better judgement. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ministry - Every Day is Halloween I concur, but you have to add these to the playlist: I don't have many Halloween traditions myself, but I still like carving a Jack O' Lantern, and I usually end up watching The Nightmare Before Christmas, because it's both a Halloween and a Christmas movie, dammit! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
dasho Posted October 31, 2022 Letting adults I don't know give my sons candy which does indeed sound like a terrible idea when you write it down. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

dasho Posted October 31, 2022 Well, that was partially in jest. I only go to the community that I already know. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Nikku4211 Posted November 1, 2022 I'm too terrible at social interactions to knock on stranger's doors and ask for sweets. I couldn't imagine giving sweets to strangers either. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted November 1, 2022 I don't, as Halloween is "not the tradition of (our) country!". But just recently, I made a video about the English patch of Tao, an obscure 1998 MS-DOS game from Taiwan about an exorcist and a demon slayer from the Qing dynasty era. Also, AFI's The Boy Who Destroyed the World will always be stuck in my head after hours of THPS3. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Snark Posted November 1, 2022 This year I'm rewatching all of these. So should you. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
EPICALLL Posted November 1, 2022 Well, Since 2018, I've been sitting next to my front door handing out candy, and breaking my back in the process. Because I'm Like 6'2, and the tallest person who came up to my door this year was maybe 5 feet. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
whybmonotacrab Posted November 1, 2022 Not American, so don't celebrate it outside of having some drinks and watching horror movies. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kinker31 Posted November 1, 2022 Couldn't really get into the true Halloween spirit this year (currently have a college campus job I'm currently working hard at right now, it ain't much but it does get me money), but I usually celebrate it by either playing Doom/Quake, American McGee's Grimm, or something of that caliber. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Biodegradable Posted November 1, 2022 I imbued myself with all the Halloween spirit humanly possible while editing my next video for Whang which is all about exploring the 80s slasher homage film, Terrifier (2016). You see, with all the buzz around the recent sequel that just came out, Justin wanted to check out the original film. Neither of us had seen it before and it was an illuminating experience for sure. I can't wait to see the new one now, holy shit! Ahem... yeah, so that's how I celebrated Halloween this year hehe. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
HeatedChocolate Posted November 1, 2022 Slept a lot, dug my hand into the candy bowl and watched scary movies, it rained a fair bit so not many people showed up to my door. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dusty_Rhodes Posted November 1, 2022 As a kid, it didn't take long for me to be embarrassed to dress up and trick - or - treat. I never consider myself as someone with a bunch of inhibitions, but around 8 years old I just couldn't get myself to dress up again. That said I have a lot of good memories of Halloween as a kid. Even as I got older, I had a lot of fun going to friends house, playing Xbox, watching reruns of Gravity Falls heh. That was in middle school, I guess. I've been Catholic my entire life, so now it's mostly a religious Holiday for me (Halloween comes from the traditional, All Hallows Eve). I also live in the middle of nowhere, so I've never given candy out. Never had the chance. Halloween is chill though, love the atmosphere. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted November 1, 2022 (edited) I don't. As far as I am concerned, this is merely the eve of the day where you go put chrysanthemums on the tombs of your dead relatives. Halloween is an anglo-saxon thing and I feel it would make as much sense for me to celebrate it as it would to celebrate Diwali or Inti Raymi.
