Beat the first four maps - good stuff! Loving the pistol and chaingun replacements.

 

EDIT: Holy f the plasma gun replacement is awesome too!

 

Is the RL secret in map 7 inaccessible? I took a look in the editor and there doesn't seem to be a way to lower the wall.

 

EDIT 2: Is the secret exit in map 31 broken? I've destroyed all the blue crystals but the wall didn't open.

 I explained this on the previous page. There's a hint behind the portal. If you're looking into the black void, you can see it.

I have yet to play this, but since it's a MAP07 you're looking at, don't forget to check if there's a tag 666 or 667 in the area.

Lol I am dumb.

 

I think it's because as a player you never expect to backtrack after killing arachnotrons or mancubi that the thought didn't even cross my mind, but that's a good catch!

I know it's too late, but I noticed two other minor problems, just in case you'll ever update the WAD:

 

MAP08: from certain angles, the secret rocket launcher is sticking out from the wall.

 

MAP09: cacos can't fly down from blue rocks around the blue key arena.

That's an amazing mapset, goes into my "doom and chill" playlist as something that I can launch at any time and have a blast.

I'm completely stunned that it only took a month. Sure, sometimes it may feel too symmetrical and blocky - but the gameplay never seems to suffer from the tight time limit: Each level feels unique and the wad is never boring. I also like how easygoing it is on the player, Plutonia aesthetics of the first episode made me decide not to pistol start it, but it turned out that the Lost Magic has a very careful, streamlined progression, I would even recommend it to someone who's only starting to play Doom.

 

Oh, and the fact that all the levels are connected visually is an amazing touch. It never gets old.

 

Also, thank you so much for using HOSILFU, it's easily the most underrated midi from the Plutonia Midi Pack, and I actually downloaded the wad because I noticed that it features it.

I've just completed this wad, and would have no hesitation in recommending it as a very worthwhile playing experience. I did this on UV in continuous format, and found the difficulty level challenging but perfectly manageable, the maps were an ideal size with mostly 100-250 monsters, and the environments were always interesting.

 

The only gripes would be concerning MAP30, which seemed a bit one dimensional (but at least it wasn't an IoS) and had no final statistics screen (just a 'Thanks for playing' message), and MAP32 - I completed this on the two easiest difficulty levels, but felt that it became unreasonably tough in HMP. That's a setting which should be manageable for an averagely good Doomer, but I found the early part of it impossible, even if it was theoretically doable. It seemed to assume that the 'averagely good Doomer' can routinely accomplish 'two shot' kills on Cyberdemons, which would be necessary to survive at that stage, but I found this a hopeless task, despite the fact that I've completed more than 40 Doom 2 megawads on HMP or UV. Couldn't escape the feeling that this map was trolling the player, especially when the 11 'secrets' were revealed in the final room!

 

EDIT: (21 March 2023) Lol I'm feeling a bit foolish now. I returned to this a few minutes ago, loaded up the wad on HMP setting and IDCLEVed to MAP32. Blew away all three Cybers with the BFG on the first attempt, two-shotting the first one and possibly the second as well, then finished the map, though I died a couple of times in the Heresiarch room. I might become a minor Doom God yet....

Been playing this on and off for awhile.
Overall very good. Love the character palette and the new enemies. 
 

Blazed through the first 20 or so maps but the last 10 definitely amped the difficulty up. The ending map was a little bit of a let down but considering you did all 32 maps in a month it’s not a deal breaker. 
 

Perfect 5/7 would recommend.

I know this was posted three months ago but just a heads-up: Map 30 does have a final statistics screen when you find the secret in the map - which also gives you a kind of "alternate" ending.

Somehow missed this back in March which is sad as it's pretty excellent!

Here's me playing with Walpurgis (which works fine, so far as I can see):

Snappy levels with bursty combat and good flow without being butt-clenchingly hard are my favourite kind of Doom level, so you get full props from me!

Sorry to be here this late, but does anyone know where I can find the soundrack for this wad? I found this wad through a soundtrack unless someone deleted it, but I have been looking all over youtube and still cant find it.

Is this Stimpack in Map 13 a troll/bait? i cant find a way up there i've even noclipped and i already have all secrets kills and items and can exit. Is this to troll players to look for a secret in this area for ages? If so Kudos it worked on me lolimage.png.96284713294827ee3900da3887644314.png

I thoroughly enjoyed this, with the possible exception of the secret levels which were awkward. Very original and cool wad. I like how the twist of the secret "true" ending sets up a sequel (I'm assuming The Quinary Conundrum fits the bill). Intriguing cliffhanger with some deep questions about what is real. I've written my thoughts for every map in the description box so I won't ruminate too much here. Thank you @Vortale

Had myself a really good time with this wad - I'm going to have to start recommending it to people looking for something breezy, fat-free, and enjoyable. Honored to hear so much music from the TNT MIDI Pack in here, too. And then just when I was about to express my sincere hope that map30 was hinting at a sequel, the above post let me know it already exists!
