Most Excruciating Gaming Accomplishments?

What are some of the biggest but painful feats you've managed to achieve in a video game? I'll start with one of mine: somehow, I've managed to complete Mega Man X6, with 100% completion, on the hardest difficulty without the use of bugs or glitches. Absolute pure hardcore torture.

Metal Slug with no deaths. I actually still haven't done it but I've trying to for some time. I gotta save all those poor POWs!

Otherwise, I have a lot of Source game achievements. Half Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 are 100% complete. Getting all of the achievements was actually really fun, especially the gravity gun only ones, like in Ravenholm or only shooting once in all of Episode 1. Oh and I have 300 some achievements in TF2. I have about half of Counter Strike Source's achievements as well, I should finish that.

Oh and I've beaten Halo 2's Outskirts on Legendary.

Getting a perfect character in Oblivion. Careful planning of every level up, only increasing the skills you need until your max level, followed by days of power leveling minor skills. End up with 100 in every attribute and skill.

Halo CE's The Library, 20-30 minutes (It's been a while) of bland, samey corridors, elevators and an obscene amount of combat forms, some armed with rocket launchers. It isn't atmospheric, it isn't fun and I have to spend the whole time waiting for the worst character to do shit. But I did it, out of pure spite.

Resident Evil 3 Remake, beating the game on Inferno. Absolute bullshit but I was too determined to not give up.

This, but it was Metal Slug 3 on the OG Xbox. My college friend and I spent weeks taking turns playing trying to get it. I haven't played it since lol

I didn't complete it on Inferno, but I did beat it on Nightmare. In comparison to the other difficulties, the very final boss battle gets a lot more complicated...

Inferno Nemmy is pure RNG, you ain't missing much. Even with NG+ items it's sheer bullshit, it frustrated CarcinogenSDA to no end and he's 100x better than I am.

Recently I played Hollow Knight and the platforming got really excruciating for me, particularly this bit which I had to do with only one health left and so little margin for mistakes:

celeste world 9? playing through the morrowind temple quests with Speed 30? Grimrock Toorum only on hard? FF8 but boredom mode where you never get any exp?

most of the challenges I'm into aren't exactly big bragging rights gatherers, just ways I like to reapproach games I've memorized. hardest I go in Doom is "avoid the secrets" and to do that you can't really be playing a new map.

100% all of Clannad, twice. Once way back in the day, physical copy purchased in one of my weeb pilgrimages to Japan. Then, on Steam for 100% achievements.

Total, about 200hrs of leisurely paced gameplay. Enjoyable, but also excruciating, yes.

Maybe two areas in Dark Souls 2 DLCs.

In Crown of the Sunken King, in a cave where you fight the 3 gravediggers. It's just like 3 NPCs, but the combination of them made it much harder for me, once I screamed when after many tries I managed to reduce their numbers to one and I thought "I have it now, finally!" but I managed to make a mistake and die. In that one, I was so exhausted (finished already the regular DS2 in long sessions) that I uninstalled the game and didn't went back to it until much later.

Then, Crown of the Ivory King, Frigid Outskirts, that awful area (more awful than say Bed of Chaos in DS1), where you run for minutes in white snow storm fog, to be attacked by Horses, and most of the times I can't even reach the final boss, I go around in circles, not given an oppurtunity to know where I am going, while more horses are coming. And if you reach it, it's double boss cats, and you are exhausted. You can spawn NPCs but doesn't help much. When I reached that area, I tried it once, and I decided to uninstall DS2 and said "I am not doing this, this area doesn't exist for me". So, I said I finished DS2 with the DLCs already, it's over. Only came back way much later and decided to give it few tries, just to set in stone that I once in my life finished that area. When I did it (only took 2-3 times and spawns helped this time as the double boss cats where not attacking me most of the time), I said to myself "I finished this area, never again, if I play DS2 in the future I will skip this one, I will pretend it doesn't exist".

Yea, Gank Squad and Horsefuck Valley are just plain terrible no matter how well you've practiced, unless you're one of those hardcore speedrunner types.

Obtaining the Hylian shield in Skyward Sword, twice. It was especially excruciating because it's also not a very fun game. To get the shield you have to defeat every boss you've fought so far without your health resetting. I kept saving on the same slot afterward, but once I realized that it doesn't carry over to new game plus I reloaded an old save, eventually getting to the same spot, got the stupid Hylian shield and never played the game again, or tried as hard in any other game to do anything.

Normally I don't try at all to do anything extra in games like achievements unless they're particularly fun to attempt which is almost never the case. I might start an attempt and then realize how much I don't care about halfway through, or when online multiplayer factors in. I finally got 100% achievements on a Steam game (or any game) for the first time ever with Cultic, and only because it was relatively easy and fun to play anyway.

Unlocking everything in F-Zero X was a lot of fun and took some time, same goes for Perfect Dark.

I've gotten 200% in Symphony of the Night, but it was with one of those Brady Games guides sitting in my lap. I also used to really enjoy playing the PS1 Final Fantasy games with guides.

Crystal Caves no damage run (saveless), both the original and the remastered version. Pretty frustrating especially because I had covid at the time, but I was determined to make a video of it.

I've done this (More than once, given I've played Randomizers and gotten those rooms. Doing rooms backwards can almost be worse than forwards) and gotten every achievement for the game. Meaning, defeating Iron Soul at 100%, beating the game in under 5 hours, and beating all Pantheons. I've also tried to get radiant in every boss. (I only have 8 left but I do it when I feel like it) Only thing beyond that in the game I haven't done is getting every Pantheon binding, which I probably will never do because beating Pantheon 5 alone was one of the most difficult challenges I've ever done.

As for other personal achievements, Celeste World 9 probably counts for something, plus the Moon Berry. I've gotten a few golden strawberries (World 1 and 2, some B-sides I forget) but honestly I probably won't ever get many more. (Lmao at even thinking of trying World 9 golden strawberry)

I beat Hyper Light Drifter without dying, with the guidance of a friend on the best paths to take. Once you've played the game a few times it's not too bad, but definitely a case of "messing up once in certain areas means you die".

Undertale Sans I guess? These days feels like anyone try-harding has beaten him though.

I got quite a few in The End is Nigh. I completed the entire regular game itself 100%, got every tumor in every stage, and got the secret ending. I obtained every cartridge, and beat all of them except the Tower of Ascension. I also 100%'d every regular cartridge. (Meaning no Glitched ones or the Super Mega Cart) Beyond that the only other achievements are for gaming gods alone.

Playing through Everhood at the moment and getting the non-main routes sure is difficult. I've been replaying and no-hitting a bunch of the earlier bosses but we'll see how far I get with those given I've already encountered a few bosses that feel like they're nigh-impossible hitless.

Beating Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge.

I have RSI issues and that game towards the end, caused me so much actual fucking pain, but hey, I beat it, and so I beat the best trilogy of action games the world will probably ever know. Just so long as you ignore the pants OG NG3 anyway.

Beating Plutonia 2.

Beating the Sanctuary of Filth in No End in Sight

Grinding my party to level 99 for Lucifer in SMT Nocturne for a good 20 hours. That grind DLC they had for the remaster made that much less of an issue the second time I did it.

Any time I spent with Skyrim after initially finishing the game. That took 70 hours, my accrued playtime is probably over 500, sigh.

Otherwise, making myself beat Dark Souls 1 and 2 even though I hated the first and found the second less hateworthy but more tedious. In hindsight there is no way I should have ever bothered but the past cannot be changed.

Hard agree there. Never managed to get past Markoth in the last Pantheon and I eventually just dropped the game, alas.

Completed Aliens vs Predator 2010 with all achievements. This includes Nightmare runs for each campaign.

Very painful, terrible experience. Very few have achieved it as the game doesn't really deserve it haha.

100% AC:Odyssey, and i mean 100%. All items, all achievements, all dlc, e.t.c. It was a test in patience with this bloated game.

celeste world 9?

Not chapter 9, but I am devilishly posting to remind you of the excrutiating final room in chapter 7's c-side. Don't have my stats sheet on me but I think that room took over 700 attempts for a clear... Chapter 9 as a whole is the hardest in the game but that single room is so fucked.

As soon as I'd read the title I'd already decided what to post and funnily enough it's a Megaman X game. The first one though on SNES. After you beat all the bosses (which is no mean feat) you unlock the last chapter which had 3 or 4 hard as hell stages where you not only have new bosses but you have to beat all the original bosses again, then face a multi part final boss. You have 3 lives to do this or it's back the very start of the final chapter again. I never beat it on SNES but emulated I could save state before the final boss and finally beat it. That save state was the only "cheat" I used and yes it was a cheat but it's still one of my hardest gaming accomplishments, that games a load harder than Dark Souls and other modern games people moan about.

Beating Ninja Gaiden (NES) without saves, there is a bug in the game when you die in the final boss, for some reasons the game sends you 3 worlds back so when you die in the final boss is maddening :S.
