ChaoLien Posted December 4, 2022 Which Doom Builder(s) is most compatible with Slade and which ones have the best features? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
RataUnderground Posted December 4, 2022 Try Ultimate Doom Builder since its the best maintained of all versions. (Also have the most features). The Slade "compatibility" does not depend on DB, it depends on the map format you choose to make. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kappes Buur Posted December 4, 2022 (edited) 1 hour ago, ChaoLien said: Which Doom Builder(s) is most compatible with Slade and which ones have the best features? Slade3 as a lump editor is indispensible for re/working the basic building blocks of a pwad. As such it can be used for any mapping format and has no equal in modern editors. When used for creating maps for pwads in any mapping format (original Doom or advanced mapping formats ) Slade3 is more less equal to the Doom Builder family. However, the visual representation of the editing features is quite different. When learning one editor first and then switching to another, the transition can be quite daunting. The latest version of Slade3 is SLADE 3.2.1. The latest version in the DB family is Ultimate Doom Builder r4025, but requires at least OpenGL 3.3. Another good editor is Eureka 1.27b, but lacks support for UDMF. Again, the visual representation is quite different. Try them all and see which one you like best. If you are going to map only for the original Doom format, then you may also want to consider WhackED 4 to replace/rework original map contents. Redneckerz Posted December 5, 2022 There is also Doom Builder X with lower system requirements. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dreamskull Posted December 6, 2022 Use Doom Builder for the actual level building. Use Slade for indivdual file editing like monsters, weapons, sounds or whatever else. Alternatively, different programs can literally just be used for bug finding. Its strange how that plays out, but its of interesting note. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gradius Posted December 14, 2022 As others have said, Ultimate Doom Builder is the one you should be using (assuming your computer isn't twenty years old), all other versions are going to be older iterations with more bugs and less features. All of them will work fine alongside SLADE (which also has its own map editor, but one that I found a lot buggier by comparison). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
