iUsuallyDie Posted December 5, 2022 Playing through E2 with Corruption Cards and Final Doomer mods, and I suddenly wondered what the levels would look like. Would they be largely the same as Episode 1, or would they have enough to distinguish them from the Knee Deep in the Dead maps? I feel like it'd be a techbase, but with more "high-tech" stuff like portals and the like. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ludi Posted December 5, 2022 Seeing as Doom's story is about the UAC opening portals to hell, I think that it would probably look about the same but with less inverted crosses, and every map would have the System Shock elevator music. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
NoWits Posted December 5, 2022 (edited) check the doom alphas Probably a bit like that. Edited December 12, 2022 by NoWits 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lucius Wooding Posted December 5, 2022 For me, E1 was all the computer equipment for the most part. The E2 environments seem more like heavy industrial machinery and the bowels of the Mars bases. Everything got turned to wood and marble, or tinted a bit green or filled with hazardous materials. Then there were plenty of occult symbols and things as well. The only level that doesn't fit this kind of theme is Deimos Lab, although there are crushers. I also don't know what the hell the secret map was supposed to be. Also in my headcanon, Refueling Base from Doom 2 was intended to be in there. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted December 5, 2022 I'm reminded of this quote from the DWmegawad Club thread for Doom the Way id Did: On 2/12/2022 at 5:44 PM, TheOrganGrinder said: I don't know if this is something that's confirmed one way or the other in the Doom canon, but I've always had a sense that the Deimos base is the older and earlier of the two Martian moon bases, its structures more primitive and its technology more clunky than the relatively polished and sophisticated environment of the Phobos base, even before the whole moon was swallowed up into Hell and its transformation began. Whether or not the map author here has that same sense of Deimos being the older of the two bases, or simply considers that to be a part of the Petersen aesthetic rather than a deliberate commentary or observation on the timeline, I think that feeling has been captured nicely here; with the Phobos base fresh in the player's mind, even the uncorrupted parts of this compound feel claustrophobic, gloomy, grungy, and run-down. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
E1M10 Posted December 5, 2022 (edited) If you look at the existing tech areas of E2, it seems to have been more “shiny” and perhaps advanced compared to E1, doesn’t it? edit: Never mind, E2 is actually pretty run down. I need to pay more attention to the levels xD Edited December 5, 2022 by E1M10 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kor Posted December 5, 2022 (edited) The techbase elements of E2 use some of E1's textures. So texturewise I think you'd see a combination of E1 textures and the textures introduced in E2. Architecturally I think it would look the same as E2 is pretty different than E1. Edited December 5, 2022 by Kor 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
