Malphas Domain - Single map in UDMF (Now on idgames)

It's been way to long since I posted a map, I had an idea for a hopefully unique mechanic for a map but I had a hard time to actually make it in a map.

 

This map features, 3 secrets whit BIG bonus for getting all 3, an elusive key and a strangely civil Cyberdemon.

 

It should take you between 12 to 15 min to finish the map

 

It use some ACS scripts but after testing it with quite a few mods it should not break...

 

Here's some technical details

Name: Malpahs Domain

Map Format: UDMF

Ports Tested:GZDoom 4,81)

IWAD: Doom 2

Map : MAP01

Music: From Alien Vendetta MIDI Pack 2 Song, by Decino

Gameplay: Single play

Difficulty Settings: Yes

Multiplayer Placement: Nope

Build Time: about 3 weeks

Textures:  OTEX by Ola Björling, and a few custom ones made by modifying OTEX textures (all textures used are in the wad no need to have otex on your own)

Requirements: No Jumping or crouching, freelook permitted but not required)

Tested in UV.

 

Great looking map, really nice use of textures and architecture, nothing to complain about!

The only flaw, it's possibly the lighting, that is basically the same in the majority of the map and I feel that you could make more use of UDMF features.

 

Gameplay wise, there's a great use of traps and scripted stuff, I loved the key "thing" and the map opening bit by bit.

It looked well balanced and challenging, maybe it could use some tweak for the cacos trap, but overall it was really entertaining.

Hey @Kan3 lol 

 

I'm actually not a big fan of how some people use udmf so I'm fine with the light usage and I loved the gimmick and I absolutely love this map and now I know why I couldn't get that last monster LOL good times

Hey, this is my first post on this forum!

 

I just played through the map and I loved it. I laughed out loud when I got to the end! I thought "Finally, I get the -" and then the level just ended.

Thanks for comments everyone, and special thanks to those who posted videos, I was really looking forward to to see the reaction to the special mechanic in the map.

 

@Kan3 Thanks for the bug report, luckily it did not not break anything (the script was working on the pinky's) it's fixed. No idea why the bloodfall texture was not animated for you. I updated the post to indicate that all textures are included in the file.

 

@LadyMistDragon I like to make them appear at later in the fight when the player has left quite a few bodies for it to raise.

 

@swivelmaster It's a bit of trolling for the player, But I'm glad you liked the joke!

Finally got around to play this and I must say this was a very enjoyable map to play from start to finish. Definitely a memorable experience with the running-away bluekey :)
