Dweller Dark Posted December 17, 2022 I'm looking at upgrading from my G502 Hero to something similar but different, but I could use recommendations and advice. What I'm looking for is something with similar size and functionality, more or less around the same price in USD, but a different style or brand. One that I'm looking at right now is the Roccat Kone XP, which is supposed to be similar in style and function, but with 4 side buttons instead of the G502's three side buttons (including the Sniper button). I'm not sure about the software for that or if it'll fit my small hands better or the same as a G502, but it would help me decide if someone had any input about it. The only mice I'm excluding are Razer ones, since those just aren't my thing. But let me know your recommendations and approximate price in USD! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BigBoy91 Posted December 18, 2022 I use this one and love it. Comfy with just enough buttons to customize, and it's plug and play. Oh, and it's dirt cheap. What's not to love? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RDETalus Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) I can't recommend a mouse, but whatever mouse you choose, make sure to run some searches on "button" or "mouse wheel" problems to see if the model you choose has a history of mechanical issues. Also avoid mice with the rubbery texture. That stuff will gum up and start rubbing off in 1 or 2 years of use. Edited December 19, 2022 by RDETalus 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

To save some time Googling: Avoid anything Logitech. That shit always starts double-clicking when you're single clicking after about a year. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
PKr Posted December 19, 2022 Do you want to upgrade it purely because you want more side buttons, or are there any other reasons? I have tried many different mice and at this point G502 is my top1 ever. It's absolutely perfect both hardware and software wise. You can program it however you like. Everything starting from the lighting profiles and ending with scripts can be saved to mouse memory and everything will work properly without the need to constantly run any additional software. It has very handy switch for a mouse wheel and is very useful in gaming and in other software. The mouse doesn't fall apart over time. Even rubbery parts show no signs of wear (previously I had a razer mouse which turned into a piece of glue and plastic). After seeing this topic I wanted to recommend G502 only to find out that you want to upgrade it. 😅 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
markanini Posted December 20, 2022 My Roccat burst has optical switches that haven't failed me for the two years I've owned mine. Can't say the same about the Logitech and Razer mice I've owned before. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dweller Dark Posted December 20, 2022 After debating it a little with myself, I decided not to get a new mouse. My G502 works fine and I'm comfortable with it, so it wouldn't have been a good idea for me to buy a new mouse from a different brand for no reason other than different buttons, more RGB, and maybe comfort. Thanks for the recommendations, though. They might be useful later IF my G502 does end up going bad and I have a chance to get a new mouse. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

BigBoy91 Posted December 20, 2022 Just now, Dusty_Rhodes said: I've only seen that as a joke recommendation on /g/. It looks hilarious, but is it really good? Yeah. It's super comfy. I was getting really bad wrist pain before switching to a vertical mouse. It has a low polling rate and only 2 DPI options, but it's perfect for me. *shrug* 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It took quite a bit to get used to, but after that small period it was pretty smooth sailing... but even then I wouldn't recommend it if you're going to play something with a metric ton of very precise clicking. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
