nathanB404 Posted December 20, 2022 It's almost been 2 years since the last piece of official doom content has released. and since then, ID has been radio silent on what their next project is. we went through the entirety of 2022 and nothing came of it. plus, ID software said years ago (back in 2018 i believe) that they're creating a "doom universe" of some sort. could this mean the next doom game could be a spin-off? a prequel that goes into the events that happened between 2016 and eternal? maybe it could be a new quake game. who knows... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mr Masker Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) They'll release the 'Doom Eternal Pachinko Machine' and then go back to their burrows and hide until either a new game or a workplace abuse controversy. Edited December 20, 2022 by Mr Masker 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) I would say the odds of id's next primary game being Doom are slim to nil, and the odds of it coming out next year are lower still. We would have heard of it by now. The "Doom universe" was in reference to creating a wider, deeper lore, not creating spin offs etc. At least that was my interpretation of it in context. I would love a Doom spinoff, a different perspective on the invasion a la Half-Life Opposing Force and Blue Shift, featuring a different character who's more human and so making for a more horror focused experience. But I can also understand id being creatively spent on Doom for the time being and wanting to do something different. Edited December 20, 2022 by Murdoch 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gifty Posted December 20, 2022 It seems pretty likely from recent clues that they'll be unveiling a Quake reboot of some kind as their next big release. But no one knows anything for sure! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Wyrmwood Posted December 20, 2022 I'd like a Quake 1 sequel with back to basics gameplay but I guess another story set in the Doom universe would be cool too. The cancelled Doom 4 looked to that really, the concept art of the main character didn't appear to be Doomguy/Slayer but seemed to be a more human resistance fighter. Who knows? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

7Mahonin Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) I think Quake is the most likely, but they could surprise us with a new IP altogether. Though, I also wouldn’t mind seeing Id take hold of Wolfenstein again on their own, making their own Wolfenstein game instead of handing it off to someone else to make. I think that could be interesting. They do own the “Beyond Castle Wolfenstein” branding as well. It would be neat to see a more stealth inspired Wolfenstein that you could choose to go in guns blazing or more stealth. Edited December 21, 2022 by 7Mahonin 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sneezy McGlassFace Posted December 21, 2022 I think Doom had it's two new super popular games + expansions. So I'd say that's it for Doom. However it would be awesome if we got more of the lovecraftian single player quake. The Q1 remaster is great, and the new episode Dimensions of the Machine is clearly a work of passion with overwhelmingly positive reactions. Plus, imagine there was a level editor included too. Something more flexible than the Doom snap map but not as complex as Trenchbroom. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
