Bethesda should add FreeDoom 1&2 to the official add-ons

FreeDoom is extremely commendable for it's goals. But as you said, it's been in development for 19 years, it's undergone so many changes, and most of them aren't finalized. What exists is a bunch of enthusiasts working on a project that they enjoy. But it still seems extremely disjointed in style, in level design, monster design, sprite design, and texture design. It still looks like a bunch of work of different people with different ideas over two decades.

 

There's no reason that it should be included as an official add-on, because it's not done. I love that it exists, but it's not at V 1.0. 

 

And really, why would they add a free game that's meant to replace the original Doom .iwads to their official add-ons?

Freedoom has been on the app store for ages, in different versions. I used to play it on my phone back in the day.

 

And I don't see Bethesda acknowledging anything like Freedoom, ever, let alone including it as an official addon. Furthermore, Freedoom advertises itself as a free alternative, not a mod or addon. It has completely different resources, hence why the devs advertise it as a standalone game, not just a doom wad. So if Bethesda follows the logic of the creators, they probably shouldn't (and won't) advertise it as a doom wad either.

Well there done updating it, it's final version was v 0.12.1 back in 2019 Bethesda should as they say "adopt it" and put it on all the platforms that doom is on i'm talking steam,Xbox,PS4 and 5 Switch etc. with splitscreen co-op/deathmatch that's what they need to do

Or what they could do is just bring 2 level packs from both phase 1 & 2 as just an addon and all the maps are still in classic doom style with classic doom music you still get the FreeDoom text Screens but AGM is replaced With UAC to make it match up with classic doom like this...

I'm pretty sure Bethesda's only involvement in the Doom addon process is posting the promotional tweet and publishing the modder's interview on the "Slayers Club".

When id used the my widescreen assets, I had to ensure no copyrighted material was used in the process of creating the artwork and I had to sign countless pages of legal documents.

 

Now think about how many people have contributed to Freedoom over the last 20 years and try to track down each one and get them all to sign legal documents. There is absolutely no way Freedoom could become a community add-on.

But it would be cool none the less... your right it probably wont happen EVER which kind of sucks

It would also be really cool if instead of curated megawads the user can just add their own through a custom menu.

 

It would be megacool if Unity Doom supported DeHacked or even DEHEXTRA.

 

But woulds and ifs have no certainty as their basis. So lets keep the hypothesis as that.
