It would make no sense to have a wad that started as a free alternative to DOOM included in a new paid port of DOOM that is supposed to have a "curated" selection of addons. Besides that, you have quality issues, a wide range of sprites mashed together, some of which are frankly well below par, legal issues, and the fact that FreeDoom ever getting finished pure fantasy at this point. DOOM Unity sucks unless you only own a console anyway. Edited December 22, 2022 by TheMagicMushroomMan 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Why the need for loading .deh files directly? It's simpler to support only one file type and "converting" .deh to .wad is super trivial anyway. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

DOOM Unity sucks unless you only own a console anyway. Imo I don't think it necessarily sucks, I'm honestly surprised it took so many years for an official new port to come out, given how old the game is. Unity Doom is more like this weird Crispy Doom hybrid, so it has this like best of both worlds thing going on, where it has DeHacked and can do TC's and stuff but it still keeps a bit of that retro feel, which I think is awesome for new people who just picked up classic Doom on Steam or wherever and don't know much about the Sourceports or the modding community yet. Unity Doom is indeed a godsend for console players though. Prior to it there was only really the BFG ports on console, and personally I think those ports were terrible (Classic Doom on Doom 3 Collector's Edition and RoE were honestly better imo bc I think it was just a straight rip from DOS). I think FreeDoom would make a fun addition to the growing line-up of supported WADs and TC's on Unity Doom, though I think most console players and just casual Doom players in general would be more or less confused by it lol "It looks and plays similar to Doom... Sort of like an off-brand Doom... And it IS called Doom... But 'Free'?... What the heck is this..." *Turns off Xbox* 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wadmodder Shalton Posted January 19, 2024 Unless Bethesda would be interested in providing feedback for how Freedoom can make it to the Version 1.0 milestone, any chances for both phases of Freedoom being added to the Unity port will be slim to none. Or better yet, why not have @sponge borrow some Freedoom assets (and not just Quake 1 & 2 textures converted to Doom's palette) to replace some copyrighted sounds, music and textures from Heretic, Hexen, Strife, Duke 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and other old 1990s FPS games found in many of the MegaWADs from the 2000s, if any of them are planned to be Official Add-ons for the future, looking at you Alien Vendetta. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Enzo Carozza Posted January 19, 2024 (edited) Freedoom would not work as an official addon, because of its non-static state. Edited January 19, 2024 by Enzo Carozza it's = it is smh (grammar sucks even though native speaker *hits head with rock*) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I agree, I'd say it would work much better with a homebrew port for the consoles, not an addon for a *paid* game. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
