Doomworld Maximum Project 2023 - Uploaded!

I've had this half finished tropical island themed level sitting on my hard-drive for way to long and it's been begging to be finished, here's what I have so far.

Some progress screenshots! Lots of detailing/lighting to implement still, but the bones of the map is coming together. Been having a blast getting my feet wet with UDB and mapping in general.

Also, decided to call it "The Black Lodge" - the map references Twin Peaks in more ways than one. :)

My submission is finally done and (hopefully) ready for the rollout!

 

Name: Something Ain't Right

Format: UDMF

Music: Ian Taylor - Harmony 2 / System Shock - Executive

Difficulty: Implemented (even has Nightmare adjustments)

Tested with: GZDoom and Zandronum

 

Just a heads up:

This wad had lumps (specifically MAPINFO and MUSINFO) that are written assuming this level will be in MAP 01. Obviously this is subject to change.

yeah, i started around march of last year to make maps. i watched tons of tutorials and then tried to apply everything i learned on one map. i have been working on this map almost non stop for a month now, i hope you like what is there!

Yeah sure! Quite very nice screenshots 

Btw: this swimmingpool.. i think this archvile can't burn anything, he's really cooled inthere :D

Here's some progress i've been making. I expanded the map to have a whole new area after what i considered the end before because it was way too short. The map's name will be "Blood Masters". I decided to remove custom textures since i don't know how to change their names without breaking them, so it's using all stock doom 2 textures. For music, i was thinking of the courtyard stage from mortal kombat 1. I'll try to figure out some cool ideas for the new areas.

More progress screenshots: Added a brown stone/brick blood aqueduct area for the red key area. All that's really left from the map layout is the yellow key area.

  Also finished up the exit room, which fits the surreal vibe of the rest of the map. Not gonna spoil the blue key section, but here's the entrance to it:

Apologies for the spam - It's honestly just been such a blast getting into mapping that I'm giddy. I should have tried it years ago!

Finally submitting my map. I'm very happy to submit this simple and little map for this project. Now hopefully it's all ready to make a place here. And many special thanks to @GarrettChan for testing my map and providing lot of suggestions. Credit goes to id Software, the midi music creator and all the other creator of the editor and ports.

 

Map details as below:

  • Map name: Cliffside Assault
  • Map number: 01
  • Format: Doom 2
  • Music: MIDI rendition of the song 'Temple of Love' originally done by the Sisters of Mercy (also appeared in Scythe 2 map 01)
  • Difficulty settings: Yes. Easy, Medium and Hard
  • Ports tested with: PrBoom-plus/Glboom-plus 2.5.1.4, DSDA-Doom 0.25.6 and ZDoom 2.8.1
  • Build time: Nearly 10 days
  • Textures: Default Doom 2 textures

This one was a lot of fun, Yousuf. HMP ammo felt like it was on a knife-edge, but I also can't aim for shit, and I'd trust Garret to have steered you in the right direction in that regard. And I was a big dumb-dumb and couldn't find the way to the blueberry on the far right. But aside from those extremely minor nitpicks, I really had a blast with this - a great contribution to the project!


EDIT: Forgot to say how much of a kick I got out of the "wiring" to the main prison - a simple but really cool touch.

Hey there, thanks very much! I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed the map. And yes, thanks to Garret I shaped this map even better as I did lots of changes (balancing ammo or monsters, removing/adding/adjusting secrets and so on) and tests after his feedbacks. From the beginning I decided to implement difficulty so that people who don't like to play on UV should find this one at least easy, because you can see UV pressures you right after you open the door :D

Here's my finalized entry.

The map's name is Blood Masters, it's made to be map01, but that can easily be changed in the mapinfo to suit whatever map number it can be, it shouldn't cause any issues.

A Doom 2 map in the UMDF format, tested with gzdoom 4.8.0

No custom textures

Music is a midi version of In the wind from Megaman ZX Advent made by King meteor on vgmusic, and a midi version made by John J. Holden of the song Oh l'amour by the band Erasure. I included a full credits file with more details in a text file named "CREDITS" inside the wad, you can check it out with Slade3.

It has difficulty settings, so people playing in anything under ultra violence will find a bit less demons and a bit more ammo scattered across the level.

 

I tried to keep software renderer users in mind, so the map plays and looks just fine for people using software rendering and no mouselook, i think that's a great way to not allienate players who are accustommed to their doom looking a particular way. The map also has many secrets and even a full blown easter egg room. I hope you find them all!!!

 

EDIT: I had uploaded the wrong file because i'm very stupid, so here's the right one. It was missing all the difficulty adjustements before. I also added some pictures.

Just put your wad file here at least with the title and source port needed, other info are all on first page. Every type of maps are allowed, Just no Terrywads or files that includes malicious content like viruses or other stuff. Maybe nothing too NSFW as well.

A small update to my map.  I added some impassible lines around the edges and some monster blocking lines near the central cybers to make it more obvious that you're telefragging them.
