Virtual Destructor Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) I've been working on a VR game that takes a lot of inspiration from Quake and Doom. It is called Realm of the Fallen. https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/5443924462369081 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2164480/Realm_of_the_Fallen/ https://virtualdestructor.itch.io/rotf (the version on itch is a few months old) It started out as "Quake meets Metroid" but it is moving more in the Quake direction. I'm looking for testers and map builders. If anyone is interested please let me know. Edited January 4, 2023 by Virtual Destructor added screenshot 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wavy Posted January 5, 2023 Seems really cool from the screenshots alone and I would totally play it. Now only if I had a headset :') 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Virtual Destructor Posted January 6, 2023 Thanks. Please let me know if you know any level designers. I'm willing to pay for maps. They don't necessarily have to be new. I'll have to do work converting them. Right now it is me as the programmer and one artist working on this. So we are stretched thin. The engine supports large levels, but for now I am working on the "wave" mode which takes place in small arenas since I do not have the bandwidth to invest the time in developing large levels. If I had access to levels or a level designer it would really expedite development. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

At the moment I do not have plans to make it play without VR/motion controls. Maybe at some point in the future I will port it to non-VR. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted January 6, 2023 Thanks for letting me know! I have an unusual set up where I got the old PSVR connected to my PC, and I havent bought the peripherals for motion controls yet. Just head aiming for me! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I haven't tried connecting the PSVR to my PC. It was a great headset. Years ago (~2015) I did try to get Move controllers working on my PC because VR developers did not have good motion controllers (the best was the Razer Hydra which had been discontinued). I never did get that setup working so I kept using the Hydra until the Vive came out and saved VR developers by including hand inputs. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Virtual Destructor Posted June 16, 2023 The game is now has 10 levels (2 of them are bosses). I'm doing a soft launch of the early access version. It is available on the Meta Quest 2, and a PCVR version is in testing right now (if anyone wants to test please let me know!). It will be available on Steam soon. Over the next few months I'll be balancing the gameplay. Hopefully after that I can get to fun stuff like custom levels and multiplayer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dreamskull Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) You should do a breakdown of this game sometime in the future. Do you have a name for it yet? If not, just name the "project" and then the game name can come later. Edited June 22, 2023 by Dreamskull 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Virtual Destructor Posted October 23, 2023 Over the summer we finished up work on the game for the most part. I ended up blocking out most of the maps myself, and having the artist decorate them (he also blocked out two of them himself). It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot about level design in the process which was fun. The game is available now on the Quest 2 and 3, the PCVR Steam version is in testing right now. I will also be porting to other platforms. After that I'll be moving on to other projects but will occasionally be adding more to this one. Here is a new trailer for the game: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
