Crab

So who's gonna make a WAD built around crab movement, a claw melee attack, and a crab hud while set on the beach?

Am I allowed to enter turn inputs while doing strafe inputs (rd's vs thelamp's playthroughs)?  I need to really make sure I understand the definition of UV-Crab before I start diving sidling in.  Or do we have two subcategories: UV-Crab and UV-TrueCrab?

I think I was just mistaken about turning, that wouldn't make any sense or be playable lol

It's sort of an informal category already and there might be a few existing demos already (but I'm not sure if those are on DSDA).

There's no crab demos on the archive as far as I know, but there is this failed attempt at lv01: 

 

Not really a category as much as a modifier, like Reality - you can do every category besides Stroller as a crab lol. If there were rules for it in the old Doom honourific days they're unclear and haven't survived to the present day.

As far as I am aware, I invented the idea from scratch when I suggested it in an old forum post here. Barring an extraordinary coincidence you will not find any earlier specifications of it as a category.

 

The intent of my original post was just that there should be no forward or backward movement at all. No other restrictions. So yes, it can be combined with most other categories. SR50 and SL50 tics are fine too, so most "normal" gaps (i.e. ones designed to require only standard running) can be crossed.

Heh, when I played during the 90's, my signature move for most fights was a similar chunky keyboard circle-strafe, or more like a "polygon strafe": ALT+LeftArrow (strafe stictly left for a bit)... release and jab RightArrow (turn right real quickly)... Switch back to left-strafe; Repeat this while holding CTRL and firing constantly at a blob of clumped monsters.

 

Truly an advanced technique.  'Was proud.  Fuck Revenants and Archviles though.

I think playing e2m8 *without* strafing (ie just forward, back and turn) is the real 90s experience. Took me weeks to beat the cyberdemon like that.
