Maribo Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) Love is so confusing. This is a Boom-compatible slaughter map with copious use of HOMs and BFG. I would highly suggest playing in a port with a software renderer, as the HOMs will not show up properly in hardware renderers like OpenGL. There are no difficulty settings and there will not be. I made this for me, but maybe other people will get something out of it as well. This map is final and has already been sent off to idgames, there will likely be no further changes. Maribo Posted January 14, 2023 Just now, Andromeda said: Should be 2023 right? Correct, I have brain lag for the first 6 months of the year. I'll fix that. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SleepyVelvet Posted January 14, 2023 Here's an unsuccessful FDA: noisy_hljwa_fda.zip I actually like visually and geometrically taxing levels, so keeping mental track of stuff like the HOM pillars is a welcome. I may have sold my own soul a long time ago, but I presumably do appreciate the bits of melancholy poetry here too... 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Thelokk Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) Surprisingly approachable, given the number of enemies. Took me a few tries, granted, but the HoMs actually worked in my favor sometimes: with the right amount of movement, I could 'color' them and keep track of where they were. Also, HoM + BFG = Doomguy as a painter. Please allow me to share a screen that, for some mysterious reason, really pleases me: Spoiler Edited January 14, 2023 by Thelokk 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

thelamp Posted January 15, 2023 (edited) I got past the first room, mostly thanks to luck and then died immediately and rage quit lol. This map is above my pay grade, I'm a n00b After seeing Andrea's video I think I understand what was wrong about my approach, gonna take another run at this sometime edit: Edited January 15, 2023 by thelamp i took another run at it 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh wow, I didn't even play through to end yet. Accidental double meaning. I was too busy psychoanalyzing the fact that the player inevitably gets washed away by viles after a lot of previous hard work and scrambling. Thank you again for making the map and also for making me feel cool and badass. Edited January 15, 2023 by NoisyVelvet 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ryiron Posted January 16, 2023 This is beautiful, disorientating, serene, and chaotic. Thanks for sharing. The ending is ... I hope you are doing ok Maribo. Managed a uv-max in 7:01 he01-00047.zip 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

KeaganDunn Posted January 16, 2023 A pretty fun experiment! Forgive the first minute or two, I forget to turn on the actual point of the map. Love is indeed a complicated mess at times. Hope you're doing well, Mari! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Maribo Posted October 22, 2023 Hi. Here is an updated version of this WAD with graphics and music replacements - hljwa.zip I've learned a lot about mapping and resource editing since making this map and I wanted to return to it and give it a makeover, just because it still means a lot to me, even if it's a very rough and rudimentary work. I had no idea how to do any of that back when I made it, I just wanted to make a map and didn't care much else about presentation or the fact that it still used the default title screen and midi, lol. The map itself is completely untouched, nodes were not rebuilt and any existing demos should sync with no issue. Here is the original. I've sent off the new version to idgames and I plan on getting 4shock to replace the version on DSDA afterward, but I'll also keep the original available in this thread, for all it's worth. 13 Quote Share this post Link to post
